Dude, we get along pretty well on these boards, so I almost feel bad dogging you for this.

Penny threw a HUGE pass, that 41 yarder as stated above. He also threw numerous mid-range passes with a LOT of zip throughout the game.

He hit Baker right in the numbers, while Baker was TRIPLE-COVERED!!!

The one pass he truly lobbed today was nothing but a timing pattern. It was meant to be thrown the way it was, hence the catch made on it. (I can't remember who it was, but it was on the left sideline.)

Penny will not be the reason we lose games this year. If he has a bad day this year, people should make sure they pay attention to the lack of the running game we have. Teams are going to rush him worse every week until we can get a guy who can run out of the backfield.

All of you talking about the 41 yard pass misread my post. I've always stuck up for his ability to throw a decent bomb which that pass was. I'm talking about the deep OUT pattern. The pass he threw to Baker was nice, but it certainly wasn't a deep out. As far as him throwing the ball with zip, I guess that depends on your definition of zip.

Like I said, great game by Chad today, I loved watching it.

    i'll admit Chad stunned me.

i wasn't ready to completely abandon him because, right now, he gives us the best chance to win over Clemens and Ramsey...

but man-oh-man, he threw with some zip, and hit receivers downfield, over the shoulder, in stride. that impressed me the most, as i didn't think he was capable of doing so anymore.

it's early, and we should stay grounded, but i'm buying Chad having a very good year.

    cheers

i can eat my crow. i was happy to see chad throw 2 td's plus 300 yrds passing. 1 fumble, i can live with that but also i was glad to see our wr catch balls. we could get scary if we can break long runs.

How sweet it is. I feel really good for Chad Pennington. He has to be on cloud 9 right now.

The fumble wasn't his fault. He got blindsided with the ball up. It can happen to anyone. I think we should all be impressed that there was not one fumbled snap today. A rookie snaping to a guy who everyone thought was done, and was just one good hit away from disaster, with a poor rush attack, and a lot of blitzes, and the concentration was there in full.

WSW, what would you consider zip then? Chad's last name isn't Favre, or Marino, or Elway, but he threw hard all day. He threw beebees into traffic. How much more zip can you realistically ask for? I'll take Chad's brains, along with a fairly good arm, over any QB in the league right now whose name isn't Brady.

Turn on NBC, either of the Mannings throw the ball with zip. I can't ask for Chad to throw the ball like this because I know he can't. He threw the ball well today, much better than last year.

That's saying a lot. He has an average NFL arm at best IMO. His QB smarts are excellent for sure - this is the reason he's still in the league.

If Chad can do what he did against the Titans against the better NFL defenses with some consistancy, I'll be on here eating crow and enjoying it. I'm not about to call him the second best QB in the league after shredding the Titans defense though. Not even top five.

Don't get me wrong, I am not calling Chad the #2 QB in the league. I would put P Manning, Brady, Palmer, Big Ben, McNabb, Brees, and maybe Hasselback and a few others ahead of him talent-wise.

However, like I said, I'll take his level of talent, with his brains over anyone but Brady. Maybe I should also include his heart in the equation.

Chad is a different kind of player. He elevates the guys around him. Just like Brady. The other guys are just stars, and most have stars around them. Is Manning as good without his supporting cast? How about Ben? Palmer? McNabb probably is. Brees? Hasselback?

Let's be honest. Coles is good, so is Cotch, but neither is an elite WR. Chad's presence alone makes his supporting cast play harder. He drives his guys. The only guy I feel does this to his surrounding offense is Brady.

That's why I take Penny over any of those guys. We don't have the overall talent to be a playoff team. But with Chad, we are greater than the sum of our parts.

I challenge you to a heads up match of no-limit hold-em in the bunker.

You don't have a gambling problem. You can quit anytime right?

According to MisterMoss we don't need a bunker right now. I replied that I would be hiding in the coat room, so if you bring the cards, and pick up some beer on the way, I'm down!

I am here eating crow this morning. I was one of the guys on the "noodle-arm" bus and wasn't willing to give Chad a chance following last-season's escapades.

Well, things have certainly changed a little. Yesterday, he showed the poise which was missing in years past, and a renewed energy/strength which we have not seen in some time.

While I am not 100% sold on the guy, only because this was the first game of the season, it was certainly a VERY solid start and I hope that he keeps it up, as our passing game far exceeded the running game yesterday.
