It's a qualification to support a weak point. It's trying to illustrate weakness in scouting when the situation with those players was largely terrible GM actions years after they were drafted.
No, it's really not a weak argument. Both Moss and Coles made ONE pro bowl. They were accidental pro bowlers, not guys you expected to get there many years. Both were decent players, with both actually quite good for a period of years but they weren't pro bowl caliber players. That the Jets let a guy go who then immediately made the pro bowl, then traded another guy to get him back and had that guy immediately make a pro bowl is just kind of an indication of how cluttered things were overall in Jets-land. Coles and Moss were similar caliber players. Fuddling around with them and getting the short end of the stick in the end was just Jets normal for awhile there.
Why bother using the Pro Bowl as a reference point if you are going to admit that it's a flawed system? The Jets drafted both Coles and Moss and both ended up as pro bowlers. That is a fact. That neither of them gained that title with the Jets means nothing in terms of the Jets ability to draft pro bowl talent. That was all on GM and HC. This thread isn't about coaching ability. It isn't about pro personnel management. It is about a team's ability to draft talent. And it's flawed.
Why I don't take that garbage seriously, they don't even differentiate 3-4 DE's from 4-3 DE's, seriously just change it to "interior linemen".
It doesn't matter, we drafted pro bowl skill position players and people keep acting amazed we haven't but we have whether they made it for us or another team. We can't have it both ways, either we get credit for Curtis making pro bowls and all pro for us or we get credit the guys that made it in Washington so either way it's not as bad as it looks.
Sorry junc have to disagree cause the NYJs have been a total failure when it comes to drafting which is why we have never won another SB. From VG & Vlad to Johnny Lam & Roger Vick are just some examples of our managements stupidity over the years. You may choose not to accept that as the reason we never won another SB but that is truly the reason we have been losers now for 45 years
This is silly. Do we really need to bitch and whine about everything? Idzik is trying to change that. It's kinda funny how you say "skill" position as if DE, DT, CB, Safety, Center, LT, etc don't require skills or help the team win. It's a terribly flawed argument. If you want to say "offensive playmaker" (QB, RB, WR, TE), then just say that. Don't act like they are the only positions on the team that matter.
the Roger Vick era was a LONG time ago, we have drafted well fro a log time which is why we have been a good franchise for a long time. we haven't drafted great which is why we aren't consistently a contender but hopefully that is changing, year 1 brought us some nice pieces top build around.
So if Roger Vick is a long time ago what about VG & Vlad? I think Wilson will also fall into the VG/Vlad list. Some day U will clearly see the lack of talent on the team thru the years is why you have not yet seen a SB championship. You may also add into the mix the HC like Charley Winner/Joe Walton/Bruce Coslet/Herm/Man/AG/Kotex & now RR that we have had over the last 45 years as well
Sorry I'm kind of a young fan, could you describe why each year since 1969 has been a letdown? It would be the most beneficial if you could give at least one example of something shitty for each year please.
We might as well pencil in x 60. It will take at least a decade and a half to replace every single player, coach and FO worker on the Jets with every single player, coach and FO worker from the Patriots. And it will take a peasant uprising to force Woody to sell the team. But I have a good feeling that we can get their equipment manager to defect this season.
i personally beleive the whole super bowl drought is fate fucking with one fan for his over use of one emoticion
