I'm down with Haley, fits two of my prerequisites for the job with previous hc experience and offensive mind. Doesn't he have ties to the Jets too?
I don't know how anyone can watch that game last night and not think Bowles is getting fired. This guy is as incompetent as we have seen at HC since Kotite.
yes lots of ties to this organization. His dad is Dick Haley who ran player personnel here for a long time and Todd got his start coaching in the league under Parcells with the Jets. (WRs coach when we had Keyshawn and Chrebet)
Oh I agree with wanting him gone (at this rate). I just don't see Macc actually going through with it.
Considering the first article that comes up when you google his name is speculation he might be fired if they don't make a SB run, doubtful.
Not having a legitimate starting QB since Pennington will do that. You put a top 10 QB on this team through the last 10 years and you're attracting a better pool of interested candidates. And are the names Petty or Hackenburg enough to lure a coach here with credentials that's going to hang their legacy on?
Tom Coughlin would take this job today if he was offered it and I would take him in a heartbeat , I don't care how old he is,,these first time coaches have all sucked !
Put a legitimate starting qb on this team and we are likely not looking for a h.c. to begin with so i think coaches underestand they usually are not inheriting a solid qb position
I know one way we can not have a rookie HC. Keep Bowles. Most of the time you have to hire a rookie HC if you want to try and get a great one. Most of the time those guys aren't going to come into the league and be great right away. They have to take their lumps, learn on the job and gain some wisdom. None of that is free and it can be painful to watch them earn their badges. I was enraged with Bowles last week when he punted in the 4th quarter. To me that was his most egregious coaching mistake to date. I have very little tolerance for being a massive pussy and playing to not lose by too much. This game requires a certain level of aggression to be successful. He's made quite a few coaching errors and needs to get better. Let the guy learn. If he shows obvious signs of not learning after a few years by all means kick his ass to the curb.
You're not allowed to learn in this market. It's win now or get the fuck out. That's why the Jets should never have bothered with rookie HC, much less hire 4 in a row.
Forget coaching & the proverbial scapegoat. That nonsense has gotten us as far as the rookie head coaches have. This team needs drastic change. The top down. Enough w. the false bravado. Enough w. players, Coordinators & OWNERS avoiding interviews or being delusional in them after brutal losses. This team needs to OWN UP to their past failures. Stop pretending that the past isn't pathetic & we're this proud franchise...WE'RE NOT!The first step in recovery is acknowledging there is a problem. It's more than one position, coach or player. It;s more than the god awful draft picks. It's more than the retention of the WRONG Guys over & over again. It's a systemic CULTURE thing. It can no longer be as vague as "We want sustainability...we want to win". It can no longer be just stacking up on as many big names as possible & hoping the CS can work magic. This team needs to be able to hang their hat on something. This team needs to be able to make a stand every now & again. This group just blindly goes through the motions w. no accountability or backbone. The ticket sales/celebrity appearances/back page chasing needs to stop. RIGHT NOW. They must be really really stubborn & dumb people if they don't realize that their fans don't need a radio commercial or media coverage to continue supporting the product. If they want corporate growth there is nothing wrong w. that but it comes from WINNING. All the press, Larry David quotes & Farm league-esque radio ads in the world aren't gonna change that. They seem to only care about winning to a certain extent. Their priority is the brand & the image. if that doesn't change IMMEDIATELY...their real close to reaching LA Clipper/Pittsburgh Pirate territory...and at least the Pirates have some heritage & a damn nice stadium of their own.Fans are pissed...possibly more than ever before. It's just been broken promise after broken promise & then having our faces SMUSHED by reptile patriot fans
One necessary requirement for learning means admitting you fucked up in the first place. He's shown zero signs he has the ability to reflect on his mistakes even going so far as to double down and defend them the next day. I think he admitted to screwing up the going for 2 against Buffalo but that was a rare thing.
Maybe I was blinded by the record last year but I swear that Bowles was 1000 times better last year. It actually seemed like he made adjustments and he seemed to be growing. Was it the easy schedule making him look better? Was it that he wasn't Rex? I'm not sure what happened but he seems like a completely different coach
That was sarcasm. I thought that part was fairly obvious but apparently not. I would definitely kick the tires on McCarthy though if he is on the outs over there.
+10000 I think since I have joined this Board i have been preaching this The FO in Mac will stop listening to TB and finally see the light that in a passing league you live and die with your Franchise QB OL RB and Receivers Go draft Defense in the later rounds please Today we all sound off over who will replace Shaddy Taddy but we forget we need a change of philosophy fast Go for Jon Gruden Cowher or Tom Coughlin Experience trumps age Plus we need offensive minded disciplinarians holding these clown players with big contracts accountable day
The point wasn't whether a potential HC understands they are most likely not inheriting a solid QB, it was that QUALITY HC's haven't been attracted to the job with the Jets because a lack of a decent QB on their roster since Pennington.
Another reason to play Petty NOW. No decent coach will come here knowing that the only QBs they have seen this year won't be back. If Petty sucks fine let's see.
anyone can win on a consistent basis with a good QB and a good HC - sadly the Jets have never had either in living memory
