Seriously? The offensive line is bad enough that we can't throw it deep downfield. It's not bad enough that we have to make throws without even a 3 step drop. Not on most plays.

I'm not talking about slants in general. I'm talking about the flat footed no read passes. There have been a few that have come on 1 yard slants. They're generally batted down given that Sanchez's throwing style on those throws gives defenses plenty of time to react.

I actually think the slant needs to be MORE utilized in the passing game right now. Just NOT on the quick hit.

Yeah, I can go for that. The distinction between slant and quick hit just wasn't one I got right away.

Yeah, I should have done a better job of clarifying, then.

Another annoying part of that INT for TD play was the fact that Shoddy thought the play-action was going to fool someone.
They hadn't been able to run all night! Who was going to bite on play-action? Webb anticipated the pass as did any Jets fan who has been watching this offense for the duration of the BS era.
Marty-ball only works (and "works" is generous) when you have a running game and right now the Jets don't have one.

    Agree 100%

Plus: 'Someone' doesn't seem to call any plays to counteract a pass rush. Maybe it's too simple to have some draw plays, more action, a few different screen plays, and occasional roll out, etc. It seems quick out pass is the only play that gets called to counter a strong pass rush.

Seems to work when we call them. I guess we don't want to wear it out by calling one once a game or so.

I think this can also be traced back to a porous OL, those DB's jumped so many routes tonight because Sanchez had to get rid of the ball so quick I can't believe he didn't have more picks. How was it I who know nothing about being an offensive coordinator was able to pick this up in my living room yet a guy who has been doing this for how many years couldn't?

Care to rephrase that one a little?

I'm all for giving people their credit but when it comes to Schottenheimer tipping his hand I'm willing to believe the worst in that situation.

totally agree. I've thought the same thing. He can never do it right.

Its a bad throw, or a pick, or a near pick

His 3 step slant can give a football lover a chubby.

    But its rarely used.

Schottenheimer design of routes and plays is absolutely awful , last weeki n Oakland and yesteday he has his qb stood with little additional protection and a gameplan straight from madden.

Also where are Kerley and Mcknight in the offense game planning? These two actually have some zip and sideways movement .

well since day one, sanchez has not shown the ability to master some of the "basic" NFL pass plays. u have to be perfect on 95% of these, at least. been harping on this in previous posts so it gets ridiculous but until that changes OR the offensive design changes - the results wont change.
