I think theoretically it's the same rules, but they're much more cautious as to when they start games and stuff. But they'd put much more effort in getting those games in.

anyone else not understand the rationale to adding Anderson Hernandez to the roster...this baffles me a little

The reasoning is that if they need an extra OF due to Floyd's ankle acting up, woody is able to play OF while Anderson can play IF

Is Hernandez on instead of Milledge? If so, Milledge's star has really fallen fast.

I think its for the flexiblility. Woody can play IF or OF. Milledge is limited in what he can play.

He's an unseasoned rookie who may or may not be a clubhouse distraction. At this stage in his career I don't think he offers anything that special, and could get intimidated by the pressure.

Lastings will get plenty of playing time next season.

I think I'd actually prefer Hernandez just taking Woody's spot then having Milledge as the backup OFer. Hernandez and Woody can't hit, but at least Hernandez has a glove.

yeah, not sure i like the idea of having both Hernandez and Woody on the roster....

Milledge has really fallen out of favor........guess they didn't really need to disrupt the good kharma on the team either..

I guess this also answers the game 4 question, since Williams isn't on the roster. Marquis was also dropped by the Cards so it's looking like Perez vs Reyes in game 4.

Milledge wasn't on the roster by the 8/31 deadline so he can only be on the roster if Floyd or any other positional player is out by injury, Hernandez was on during that deadline so it is easier to get him on the team

If they used Milledge, Cliff would have to be out for the entire post season.

Who knows, maybe Woodward could have an "accident" going down the steps. They're tricky sometimes.

Huh? wouldn't it be just for the series since you can change the roster after each series?

The tarp is on the field, I have been waiting enough, I don't want to see a rainout

That was my impression, but it is certainly true that Milledge couldn't have been on the roster with Floyd now, so my point made a lot less sense than I thought at the time!

I do think, however, that Milledge's star has fallen, and I think Omar would trade him now for a #2 pitcher, which he never would have done (and didn't actually do) a few months ago.

Given the weather, I would have to think that a Chavez/Beltran/Green outfield is what we'll see tonight. Hopefully Beltran's achy quad won't be a problem.

For Milledge to be eligible, because he was not on the team 8/31, the rule is Floyd must be declared out for the post season.
