I don't see why he wouldn't(other then that's just not the way Willie does things). I'm assuming that Carpenter is going to start game 3, as he'd be on short rest for game 2 and his home/road splits are rather extreme this year(1.81 home/4.70 road). I'm not sure who Willie is planning for game 2, Maine got rocked in his one start against the Cards this year, while Trachsel pitched a very good game @STL early in the year and was bad at home against them later in the year. Whoever it is I don't think pitching game 3 or 4 would make that much of a difference to whoever doesn't pitch game 2, but I don't see Willie running Perez out there game 3.
With Carpenter not available until game three, we need to take the first two at home. The Mets have hit Weaver and Suppan hard, and they need to take advantage again. Also, I'd rather have Dave Williams start a game in this series than Perez. http://www.ultimatemets.com/gamedetail.php?gameno=7186 Went 6.1 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 4 K, 1 BB against an almost complete Cardinals lineup. Really, he usually isn't any worse than we can expect from Trachsel. No matter how dynamic Perez's stuff is, he's really only had one good game as a Met. Williams had 4, with only one crappy one that skewed his ERA. http://ultimatemets.com/profile.php?PlayerCode=0795&tabno=4&ThisYear=2006
found this on metsblog not sure how "official" it is. Needless to say, the Mets had best plan on winning this series in 6 or less. You have to like those Weaver/Glavine matchups as a Mets fan though, and in the Suppan/Marquis games hope the starters keep it close and we get into a pen vs pen matchup. I think the Mets match up very well against the Cards but with this pitching staff anything can happen.
Going against Marquis I might agree with you. Williams should be able to give us 4 or 5 mediocre innings without getting blown out of the water and going up against another horrible pitcher that might be enough.
who cares? i am a mets fan i don't do everything kaysar does he is not my god I HATE THE YANKEES WITH A PASSION
I'm as pumped for baseball as I have ever been. Mets SHOULD win this series but as we all know playoff baseball doesn't always work out the way it should.. LETS GO METS!!
Perez should not see starting action unless we have another injury. I'm not worried about the Cards pitching and think we can handle Carpenter... he doesn't scare me like past Cy Young winners. Don't get me wrong, he's a very good pitcher but i don't see him as that elite guy that nobody can touch. I say we play our game and let them adjust to us, not the other way around.
Living in IL, I know a lot of Cardinal fans. I think they know we are better. Only one question I have: What role does Braden Looper play here?
We need a fourth starter. Dave Williams, Oliver Perez, Brian Bannister? Who's your pick? If we're up 2-1 or 3-0, I'd go with Perez. If we're down, I don't know.
Man it would be sweet to see Wright or Beltran jack one off that clown for all the misery he caused us the last few years.
I am most likely the only Cards fan posting here. Just not a big baseball fan, though. So you won't see, like, 50 posts from me rubbing it in when we win
