I hope not. Boldin's a top receiver but ignoring for a second the fact that we're not shopping Jones and it would cost at least a 2nd rounder.. we already have two talented WRs ready to start and Boldin doesn't give us the height or speed that we're missing. I see a lot of cost bringing him here and not much benefit. Oh and can we drop the Barlow talk. I think it's in everyone's best interest to just sweep that shitty little nugget of history under the rug and pretend it never happen.
I?d take a 4th. 1. He won?t be missed with Leon+Greene 2. We won?t pay him, and that means there?s a good Chance, that he?ll become a problem 3. 31yo, nearly 2000 carries, that the point when the carrer of an NFL-RB is going south quickly. Boldin is a beast. Go see a recent Cards game, and you?ll see what he would bring to us.
Trading him would be preferable to cutting him which will be the ultimate result anyway. If not this year then next. What is highly unlikely is that they will ever give him a new contract.
I have not even made it through the second page of this thread yet. But. Are you out of your mind. Seriously, have you gone insane. The only thing that this offense has going for it in terms of putting points up is that we appear to have 3RB's who can run the ball and touch the ball 10-15 times a game each. If we are not packaging Jones and a pick for true 1 WR then forget it.
Thank you my Canadian brethren. What is the harm in having 3 solid RB's. Aside from the fact that we have a fresh guy back there all game, if one of them goes down for a while, we likely won't miss a beat.
What would you expect them to say at this point? If they acknowledge the rumors then Jones never plays another down for them and they lose all control of the situation as he demands to be traded, now with good cause. It's a no-win for the Jets to do anything but deny the rumors at this point.
Here's my conspiracy theory. TJ flirted with a holdout before OTAs, Rex and Tanny brought him in and he says that if they aren't keeping him in their long-term plans, he wants to go to Seattle to play with his brother before the end of his career. Kind of plays right into the idea of rumors that they were talking to Seattle about him.
If Shonn Greene looks like he can take 200 carries this year the Jets have no reason to keep TJ around unless he's going to be happy with a diminished role and at the salary he's due to make. My best guess is that Jones gets traded as soon as it's clear that doing so is not likely to harm the Jets chances in 2009.
Jones isn't going anywhere this season. Ryan wants his 3-headed monster at half back and he's not going to put it all in with two rookies (Woodhead and Greene) and a scatback.
That's true, but we can't really get a sense of whether that's clear until after the 2nd preseason game. At that point, it becomes rather unlikely that a team trades for him and brings him in with two weeks left in the offseason and a week left in real training camp.
Yeah, unless somebody makes an unusually good offer (like a competent starting WR or a conditional 1st rounder or something) we'll wait until we know Shonn Greene is recovered from the ankle and going strong. I still think Seattle is a good destination for him though. Out of our conference and to a team that has helped us out in the past and they need a back enough that they're not going to haggle on the price too much.
So, this does seem to add a tiny bit of substance to the rumors. "8. The Seahawks have had internal discussions about possibly being interested in adding another running back. If it were me running the Seahawks, I would be looking very hard to fill this need." http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Sunday-at-the-Post-5524.html
Well, it is by the same people who made the quickly disputed rumor that the Jets were shopping Jones. I don't think that the NFP is a great source for rumors, but thats just me. Jones has little to no value in a trade, as a medicore 31 yo RB. He'll be kept around to be sure Greene is able to handle the job and see his carries diminish as the season progresses.
He's got 4th round value, maybe 3rd round to a team desperate for a runningback. He did lead the AFC in rushing last year and he scored a bunch of TD's. That maintains his value somewhat until he proves otherwise. If he was 27 with the last 4 years he's had he'd be worth a first or more.
