I mean, how pissed would you be if a guy like Polumolu who FLIES around the field throwing his body around hits someone helmet to helmet in a nasty looking hit and gets suspended for a playoff game? I mean the guy has no history of being a dirty player but one quick move by either player can change the point of impact severely. This shit happens in a violent game, it has been happening for a long time. I don't like this at all.
Add Cakes to the list of people who want the NFL to become a touch football league. Way to be man....way to be.
I'm pretty sure you'd be singing a different tune if that actually happened. Shit happens in a high speed, violent, full contact sport. It's not always intentional, one change in direction by either player can drastically change the point of impact.
While I think that this definitely needs to be addressed, this is just another overreaction due to a few freak accidents in one week. Spread these out over 2 weeks...nothing happens.
One of two things happened here. Either I awkwardly stated my thoughts on the matter or you grossly misinterpreted what I wrote. I won't bother to reexamine my earlier comments at this late hour. That question you asked is a ridiculous one. The league is not concerned with some minor incidental helmet-to-helmet contact. There would be no end to the suspensions if those types of plays could result in a suspension. Just think about all the helmet-to-helmet action in pile ups. C'mon. We are talking about ball carriers getting hit in the head. It is very hard to determine intent, impossible in some cases. Just look at an above post. WSW thought the Smith hit on Boldin was non-intentional. I didn't think it was non-intentional. I don't wish to revisit that whole argument again, though.
I'm proud of the hard nosed physical style of defense the Steelers play. They want you to hurt after you're done playing them. James Harrison's quote about wanting to hurt you, but not injure you, is priceless. That's how football is supposed to be played. That's also why the Steelers are so good on defense, because you have to earn every yard you get against them. Now we have people wanting to make incidental contact of the helmets a mandatory suspension. Then what? Shoulder hits? What a damn joke
Did I say I want the NFL to become a touch football league? Also, put your snotty "way to be man, way to be" comments eslewhere, you fruit.
I would not be singing a different tune if Revis went headhunting in the divisional round and had to sit out the championship game. My tune would be this- Revis is a fuckin' asshole.
well he is an asshole. The point I'm trying to make is that he has no history of being a dirty player and things like this happen without intent. These guys are flying around trying to make plays and shit happens.
Damn it, well we gotta go back to the Smith-Boldin play. Smith used his helmet as a weapon, no doubt. Did he intend to make h2h contact with Boldin? You would think and hope not, but we don't know for sure. There is really no way to prove it. My point at the time was that I don't care what was intended. Smith made h2h contact. Fuck the high speed, fuck the change in direction- he hit him in the head with his helmet. Period. It is not good when star players are hit in the head and have to come out of games early and then completely sit out other games. I am not for the "pussification" of the sport as SteelCurtain96 so eloquently put it. Simply, I am against helmet-to-helmet hits on ball carriers and defenseless players. The league cannot judge intent here. What, you want them to give players lie detector tests? "Did you intend to hit that receiver's helmet with your helmet?"
I don't know what the right answer is. I do think that implementing something like this in the middle of the season as a reaction to one week where there were a number of brutal hits is a very bad decision. Surely there are alternatives for protecting players to suspending players. They had all offseason to look at this, they don't need to change things RIGHT NOW. You don't have to be "head hunting" to deliver a "devastating hit".
NFL: No more "devastating hits" or "headshots" or you're suspended This is a league wide matter...But how does this impact the Jets? We are a smash mouth, physical team. The "devastating hits" is what concerns me the most. So this means the Revis hit will get you suspended??? That is ridiculous. However, I agree with headshots...But this cannot be applied to "devastating hits" Just imagine, this rule being applied to when we first sacked Joe Flacco and caused Eli Manning to bleed. All those defensive players would have been suspended
this is some bullshit football is turning into basketball now, where you have big huge men who act like pussies . yelling when getting slapped on the hand now watch QBs passing yds raise all across the league
After the Bronco game, its rather apparent the refs are watching our defense very closely. If a rule goes into effect, they'll be watching even closer (hard to imagine this is even possible) and calling us for "aggressive play" or whatever they're going to call it constantly. I don't want the players' careers cut short but this is going to screw up a ton of teams and the game quite a bit.
Is this a "devastating hit"? Is it more "devastating" if Royal stays down for a minute (faking) to try and bait the replay official into buzzing down for an ejection? edit: What a fucking hit - it sounds like a home run swing.
I was surprised he didn't, I'll never forget the acting performance their whole team put on for us in 2008.
