Shockey has only one year on Gates. Shockey was a rookie in '02, Gates in '03. If you look at the past All Decade teams you'll find some players who only played four or five seasons in the particular decade. For example, Ted Hendricks and Mel Blount both made the 1980s All Decade Team. Neither played after 1983.
