According to Schefter, the Kansas City Chiefs proposed the rule change Herm's at it again, why not make them wear cups? Someone could bust a nut
This would be stupid, but then again I'm surprised it isn't this way already. The league in general favors stupid, PR/appearance based rules to make all of its players look squeaky clean, and the hair rule follows that same philosophy. The NFL is a tremendously successful business machine but so many of its policies irritate the hell out of me.
you play football/Taylor Avvy....... I too was a SS and FS, all I know that played had long (ish) hair....club Safety
This may all sound like a joke and it will remain that way right up until the point a players neck is broken by another player grabbing the hair and snapping that players neck as he drags him down.... The odds are long yes, but make no mistake this can happen. This is the same reason the NFL outlawed the horse collar tackle. As a old medic, believe me when I say, with the speed and violence of the game, it will happen. As players continue to grow there hair and let it flow down from under the helments, the odds will rise.
You grew your hair very long? I don't understand your post. I assume you're saying you grew it long and wore it outside the helmet? In that case, it's hard to believe no one would ever tackle you like that. It happens in the NFL. Edit: You said you played safety. In that case, it makes sense you didn't get tackled by your hair. Safeties rarely have the ball. If you play a position which involves handling the ball frequently and you grow your hair long out of your helmet, I guarantee you'll get pulled down by the hair a few times.
Some do. Many don't. I would assume the vast majority of linemen do, but most players in speed positions don't, from my experience. A lot of guys are uncomfortable with them and feel that it slows them down.
maybe the chiefs should be worried about more then how a player wears his hair. like the fact that thier franchise has a coach that has'nt got a clue how to"play to win the game".
This is a great rule though IMO. Seriously whats wrong with putting your hair into cornrows? Leaving your hair out is dangerous and I never understood why players leave their hair out considering it outs them at a disadvantage.
I really don't understand your post. I think it would be gay if I wrote that I enjoy looking at men's armpits and that it gave me a boner and caused me to ejaculate while watching NFL games.
Comfort/practicality generally comes before appearance on the football field.... Tight jerseys allow for less restraint, and make it harder for an opposing player to gain an advantage by getting a grip on your jersey
The one thing I will agree on here is the odds are very long. For a player to get a serious life threatening challenge by a hair pull, ie; whiplash, he would have to be going past (very fast) somebody static who at the same time would be able to grab enough hair to cause a whip lash. If you look at the most recent case of this, Polomalu, whilst he gets yanked down its not enough to cause death or even paralysis. Theres a simple solution to this, if the league are really worried about this, then players with X amount of hair protruding from the bottom of the helmet will have to wear a coller or roll. Just find this pathetic. The NFL should be cleaning up the Pacmans and Vicks of the league, not giving hairdressing tips.
The NFL is concerned about the losers, but that doesn't mean they cannot also be concerned about uniform issues.
I could care less either way. The NFL certainly wouldn't be the first company in America to police haircuts. It is a business after all. I do enjoy the occasional hair tackle though.
