Just because Decker is in the slot doesn't mean he's the #3 WR. If I knew you were gonna be an arrogant jerk to people who responded, I wouldn't have bothered responding. You posted your opinions and asked for responses. You don't know everything, even though you obviously think you do. Based on your ideas, I'd say you know little. Fitz led us to 10 victories. If you couldn't see the leadership in Fitz and how the players responded to him this past season, you don't know jack shit about football and are clueless.
Wait. Wut? Sorry, thinking long and hard made me sleepy, and hungry. 3 safeties? Pryor as a rover? GTFO. Stacy is nowhere near Ivory talent-wise. Decker is a cornerstone of our offense. Fitz is the guy for now, assuming we can work out a deal. We need upgrades at OL and LB, a pass rusher. a punter, and better returners. Cro is gone.
If and I don't say I want it, but if, Wilkerson goes in a trade and Harrison is not resigned BPA being a DL man would not be nearly as big a deal especially if Richardson is going to miss time due to suspension.
I don't think we lose both. If we're in a position where there's a thought that both might walk, then Mo will surely be tagged and even if we can't get him to negotiate a long term deal we'll at least live to fight another day (year) in resigning him when we gain a bit more cap flexibility a year from now. After next year we gain cap space in cutting David Harris, D'Brick/Mangold/Revis all having lowered cap numbers. The ideal deal to make would be to get a 2nd or 3rd rounder for Sheldon Richardson although that may be high given his high probability of getting suspended again. If we pull a second rounder for Sheldon, we then gain a ton of draft flexibility being able to grab any three of the four OLB/ILB/OL/RB in the first two rounds. As much of a fuck Belichick is look at New England's draft history. They routinely have multiple 2nd, 3rd, 4th round picks. Some of them have failed but he gives himself a ton of chances to hit knowing that a fair amount of draft picks are going to fail regardless of who the GM is. They've had multiple picks in round 1-4 in every single draft since 2007 (in a lot of cases 3) in at least one of those rounds. That's absurdly good draft management. Makes it that much easier when Brady's your QB, but still.
You my friend are an asshole. I started the thread, wanting argumentative points of view. Not insults, like you in your last response. I didn't insult anyone until you just did, where as my ideas were dumb, stupid, blah, blah, blah. Nobody should care if Decker is a 3 or not. Most of our offense was based around three receiver sets anyway, so why is it such a bad idea to get someone better than Decker, and as a potential replacement for Marshall on down the line? As for Fitz, if you enjoy watching our team fall short of a playoff berth because of his "leadership" what kind of team fan are you? You think that he can replicate last season? Wanna bet money? I never said that I knew everything, and just wanted to see both sides of anyone's argument, no insults. I didn't insult anyone who didn't insult me first, over ideas. Drink too much coffee this morning, or are you a player lover, or team lover?
1. Brick was adequate in pass pro. He sure can take some trimming salary-wise, but won't need replacing next season. On the other hand, RG and RT definitely needs replacement. 2. Brandon Marshall was had in 4th round. So was Martavius Bryant. Keep an eye on these tall, physical WRs in the draft. Moving Decker to #3 is more than retarded. 3. Fitzpatrick this season will be his swansong. Petty had better get ready. And please. Nobody took Fitzpatrick's arm for Favre. 4. Jets need to get a lot faster at LB corp in general - that's very obvious. 5. Cro to FS is not going to work. The likes of Bashaud Breeland could be had in round 4 - so it all depends on if this scouting dept recognizes talent at low rounds.
This is rich. Coming from somebody that gets all his Jets footage off the NFL.com highlights page. How about you tone it down a little? Accusing anybody that doesn't agree with you for being arrogant pricks that don't know anything isn't exactly helping you, especially if you don't even watch any Jets games and you still like to think you know what you're talking about.
not everything you're saying is wrong. I don't disagree with RB and WR. I'd like to see the Jets bring in Alshon Jeffrey for that exact reason. Also would not mind if the Jets let Ivory go, and drafted a RB with Bilal getting more work. If we upgrade our passing attack this will be more than fine. Regarding Fitz, I don't think it's fair to blame him for missing playoffs against Buffalo. I put WAY more blame on the defense for not getting off the field. But on the whole, we missed the playoffs bc of our mid season slump which I think was a combo of Fitz injury and growing pains in the system and as a team. The BUF game is EASY to hone in on bc it was the last game, but in reality we should have had it locked up by then. Idk if ILB needs an overhaul, but a future replacement for Harris would be nice via the draft. OLB agree, although I don't hate Demario Davis as much as many do. I would like to see a replacement for Pace. Cro to FS is actually not a terrible idea at all. He was getting beat straight line, but he's still pretty rangy and has strong ball skills. I think it would make a ton of sense keeping the action in front of him, but he'd have to re-work his deal. If they aren't going to make this move then Cro needs to be cut. Punter agree. A pro-bowl punter would be nice, but really a consistent guy who can get some hang time would be a plus. This offseason, I think we'll see 1 - 2 big signings (1 or 2 of Martellus Bennett, Alshon, Forte, Arian Foster, Marshawn Lynch), but more than ever this DRAFT is going to be critical for sustaining success. If we miss on this draft in 2 years we will be bottom dwellers again. Lots of guys aging at key positions across the line, BMarsh will get older, and our LB/CB spots.
Move Decker to the slot? I'm pretty sure he already plays the majority of snaps there and is still the #2. Personally, I'm rooting for Devin Smith to break out so the Jets can use him as a deep threat on the outside. He'd stay the #3, but would compliment Marshall and Decker tremendously, by having a dude that isn't Marshall that can draw safety help. Smith had some setbacks, but it's too early to call him a Stephen Hill. Hopefully he can stay healthy for TC this year and take the next step. The problem with Smith is that he's one dimensional. If he can expand his game to more than go routes, it will go a long way in this offense. I agree about revamping LB and OL. I expect this draft to be mostly LBs and OL. Maybe throw another WR/TE in there and get a punt returner.
Why would we want to move Decker down on the Depth Chart? lol. Him and Marshall are one of the best WR tandems in the league. I agree with you about the LB situation. We need faster LB's on the outside who can put pressure on the QB.
Why would the Jets invest top dollar for a player at a position of strength? Sure we could use a little more depth in that area but I don't see the need to move Decker down on the DC. I'd much rather we take the money for Alshon Jeffery and invest it in an OLB.
This. Even if you want to build a high flying passing attack like that you have to try to do it via the draft because the rest of the team will suck if 3 wide receivers are paid $7+ million a year at the receiver person. To invest in Alshon Jeffery would be foolish unless we intend to throw on every down next year. If you don't you're wasting someone's talent at wide receiver and not getting the full worth.
Agreed. I'd rather we draft a receiver in one of the first 3 rounds then spend money on Alshon. I know Marshall isn't a kid anymore but he has 3 years left in him. This position is not an immediate need. I'd rather we continue to develop Devin Smith and hope he works out.
Chan runs a spread offense often utilizing 3 or more WRs. We saw Enunwa and Kenbrell fill that role (and they tried with D Smith). The more top receivers in this system the better because they will all see a large # of snaps. And allows the offense to run optimally as designed. It's not moving Decker down the DC at all. It's putting all three in prime position, and moving Enunwa/Thompkins down in the depth chart. Takes onus off rushing attack with more open field, takes onus off Fitz giving him an additional and critical option, and provides the actual depth needed to optimize the system and protect vs injury. You're thinking in terms of #1 and #2 receiver. In this system that's not how it works. Three receivers are almost always on the field and all three are #1 option on any given play. Top dollar is debatable. Alshon had a breakout year then battled numerous injuries missing multiple games in his contract year. He won't be cheap, but he is not going to get 'top dollar'. Also, BMarsh is not young. If they can lock up a guy like Alshon now it locks up our WR position during that transition (BMarsh regression is inevitable and could happen any time in the next 1 - 3 years), PLUS they are very familiar with each other. So yes, we could draft a receiver and hope it pans out. Or we can sign an ascending WR who isn't going to get the kind of money on the open market everyone thought, and have the plan in place, elevating the offense both now and in the future. We already have D Smith on the roster. Develop him, and see if he pans out. That's the roster spot that should be draft worthy. If we are going to look to save cap space via draft, given this system, I'd MUCH rather they do it on the O-Line (and OLB) where there is a ton of cap space invested. Not to mention OLineman bust far less than WRs do.
Everyone plays with 3 receivers on the field these days. It's what the modern day NFL has turned into. No team invests a lot of money into their third receiver. They're more often than not a drafted receiver or if you have a prolific slot receiver (Edelman) you don't have a prolific outside threat on both side (Lafell, Martin, etc.).
