That may be true but he's had a long history of injuries before this.. Sad cause he has potential to be a huge CB
Injury prone player getting injured. Not a surprise. Jets knew this when they drafted him and did so anyway.
Every football player in the NFL has a long history of injuries. Milliner has soft tissue problems and that's not a good sign, but there have been plenty of players that have a string of soft tissue problems and come back from them. Right now it's a worry, I'm not going to let that worry decide that he's a done deal.
I don't think Jerseyjay14's post is bad at all. While there is no denying Milliner's physical ability and potential, in totality he has been mostly bad on the field and/or injured. So a less than 100% Milliner missing the game may not be a bad thing for the Jets. As usual Walls was in position but doing a poor job contesting the ball but I wouldn't call that getting handled. If that's handled, I'd like to know what word one would use to describe what Nelson did to Milliner. I agree Milliner made a few very nice pass defenses and that the double move got him which is hard on a tight ankle. However, it is concerning that Nelson got him on the same move earlier in the quarter for a big gain and he did not adjust.
I suppose he could have held him and taken the easy PI. Milliner played the route the way he normally does when healthy and didn't have the speed or ability to recover the route. Personally, I'd prefer if he just jammed him mercilessly at the line and screwed up the timing, but he kept inside leverage with a centerfield deep safety and I don't think it would have been nearly as bad a play of he'd had the speed to recover. He shouldn't have been on the field. Not with that QB.
Dee just needs proper time to rest, I'm afraid he won't get it at this rate. maybe this will make rex and co. think twice about playing him hurt?
The Jets should just sit Milliner until the quarter post at this point. Bring him back when he's fully healed up and let him play the last 12 games in the Cover 2 that Rex has established by that point. It sucks that we won't have him for the upcoming run of aerial attacks but it's also a good thing in that Rex can make the needed adjustment and maintain the Jets defense. Milliner will slide right into the scheme when he's good to go.
I agree he came back too soon, especially with the lack of practice reps. Milliner is playing in one of the most complicated defenses in the NFL. Practice reps with all the different play calls is essential. In a way, it was easier for Revis...just cover that guy. Never mind what the rest of the defense is doing. But Milliner is not Revis and he needs help from LBrs and Safeties in different ways on different plays. He's still thinking too much. What's the play call? Do I jam or fall back and protect the first down? Do I guard the outside hip with help to the inside? Is my deep Safety blitzing on this play? Plus a hundred more 'what ifs' on every Rex Ryan defensive snap. He's missed a lot mental reps due to injury. Even the slightest indecision will get him killed and with his bad ankle and he has ZERO chance to recover if he screws anything up. His next 3-4 games with limited practice reps and playing hurt will be rough. I would concede Milliner to the bench and have him truly healthy for the 'easy' portion of our schedule.
it's going to take a serious defensive game plan for the jets to win this week. need to keep hitting cutler or those WRs are going to eat us alive.
Its actually frustrating that they played him last week I feel like they are rushing him back. At this point its probably best to sit him the next 2 games
I don't think they rushed him back, he was feeling good and you could tell from his interviews he was very confident in his health and skill. He even showed he was playing well, I think the real issue was the number of snaps he received. I'm not saying we wouldn't have got burned, or lost the game if he had taken less snaps, but I just think he needed a little less workload for his health. It's important to get players re-intigrated relatively quickly. I don't think that it is so much that Milliner is super injury prone, but from the way Rex was talking it sounded like maybe he wasn't in good enough shape when he came into camp and that's why this happened in the first place. I know that will probably just add lots of fuel to the flames but the good news is he is young and players make mistakes like that, and it can be rectified with a strong offseason training program.
Marshall and Jeffery are going to feast on us regardless. I see 100 yards for them both but if we can keep them out of the end zone and limit the TDs we can win. Hopefully Geno balls like he did last time he started on a MNF game.
I think Geno will have a good game because I think we'll get the run game going, and he'll have a little less pressure on him. I want to get CJ and Ivory both involved in the running game, and CJ involved in some screen passes.
Both are nursing injuries so 100 yards is not likely. What is likely though is multiple TDs as they are still deadly inside the 20. I much rather give up the yards than the points. I'm behind enemy lines this week; fans and pundits alike are thinking it's going to be an easy win for the Bears.
Milliner was one of the wild cards for this years team. Both he and Geno would have to play well in order for us to compete. Sadly my feelings on Milliner seem to be spot on, I don't see him being anything but an average player. I truly hope I'm wrong but I doubt it.
And he has no shot of becoming a commentator: http://www.nfl.com/videos/new-york-jets/0ap2000000163764/Dee-Milliner-2013-NFL-Draft-interview
