the pitching needs to hold up.....The jays' bats will hit....it's the pitching I'm worried about. Not the starters...but the bullpen (guys like League and Camp).
yeah...I think halladay will win the first game..... I don't feel great about the bullpen right now....I wish there was a good guy in AAA we could bring up to come in from the bullpen but maybe those are all the guys we have starting right now...
So if you do well in this series in MAY, youre for real. If you lose the series in MAY, well then its up in the air huh?
i think we've exhausted our AAA farm system....with our starting rotation quite a hit. At some point...it's going to catch up with us. I'm glad Cecil, Richmond and Tallet have worked out well.....Romero got some great stuff too...he should be back within a week or two. League is gonna lose us a few games.....i can't understand why he can't get control of his pitches...he's all over the place. His inconsistency nauseates me......excellent velocity though. Camp is usually decent...but has struggled recently....leaving a lot of his pitches up in the strike zone. Once he gets that sinking fastball working again...he'll be fine.
If you were sweeping the Red Sox right now, I'd say you could be for real. If you beat the Yankees right now, you're just one of the top 5 teams in the AL East.
I'm not in agreeance with JTuds regarding the Jays status basically saying if we beat the Yanks, we're FOR REAL. There's a lot of season left....we haven't played the Red Sox or the Rays yet. Albeit...this will be a good litmus test.....but it's not a season breaker or maker, IMO. It's still pretty early in the season. I will say this though....given the status of our pitching rotation....I thought we were done before the season began.....so this is a nice surprise. Whatever Cito Gaston and Gene Tennace are telling/teaching these guys....keep it up. The Yanks could still explode once they come out of their funk.........they're always a dangerous team...especially with ARod in the lineup now.
I fully expect the Yankees to win at least 90 games. There's too much talent not to. My big problem with the Yankees is that they can't win series against playoff-caliber teams, and that's what really matters if you want to play in October. The Jays are impressive though. I haven't followed closely, but haven't they lost a bunch of pitchers already? To keep winning when your pitching goes down means you have a quality system in place. If nothing else, it tells you there is a future for your team.
I haven't watched much of the Yanks either...just catching highlights here and there. I've noticed Wang and Sabathia have had slow starts.....and not having ARod in the lineup really hurt you guys. I'm glad he's back now though, I want to see how the Jays will pitch him this week. Well...when McGowan and Marcum went down last year....i thought this year was going to be a wash. But the callups have been pretty good thus far. Romero, Richmond, Cecil...have all shown they can play. I mean, let's see how they do a month or 2 down the road...once the hitters have seen them. So far so good though. It's weird....the Jays did squat in Free Agency this year.....i was really contemplating wearing a bag over my head for this season. The only signing they managed was a quiet one...Kevin Millar....and he's been money in the bank. How the hell did Cito Gaston stay out of baseball this long without some team offering him a manager's job?! Anyways....can't wait for the series to start tomorrow....the Burnett/Halladay matchup should be the best of the 3. Good luck to you fellas.
Kevin Millar is the man. He is hilarious. I loved when he was on the O's. Fan favorite. I also loved after each season he would go up to Boston and cover them as if he was still on the team. Classic!
My intention was more along the lines of saying we need to show that we can beat teams in our division who have the potential of being trouble for us later in the season. In the past few seasons, the Jays have not done this.
Kevin Millar is such a pain in the ass. Can't he leave this division already? He's always hurting the Yankees. Of course, you all know this means that once he's done in Toronto he'll get signed to a $50M/5 year contract, and he'll do squat. Anyway, the Jays are hot. They're definitely a team to keep an eye on. I'll tell you this, if it keeps the Rays down, go Jays. Bonus points if they hold down the Sox too, though I'd rather the Yankees figured out how to do that.
