one man booth now on SNY the kidcaster (a 12 year old who won an SNY contest) left after the second and Keith and Ron left as well, to go sit behind home plate.
Matt Harvey CGSO (first complete game and obviously first shutout). 4 hitter. Managed to throw only 106 pitches. Harvey was hit by a line drive on the knee with two outs in the 9th, but stayed in. Earlier tonight, Shelby Miller was KOed on his second pitch, when a line drive hit his elbow. Flores 2/4 with 3 RBI. Got his first hit and first RBI tonight.
Get yerr season tickets ready for next year, a few offseason additions and this team might be ready to return to the playoffs 8 years later. Hard to believe 8 years have gone so quickly.
Ike with a brutal baserunning blunder. LeMahieu made a diving stop with 2 outs but had no play, except that Ike kept running around third, not paying attention.
Collins apparently said before tonight's game that "it would be a bonus" if Wright plays again this season. "I hope he does return," Collins said. "There is absolutely no timetable at all." Unbelievable.
Thor was strong again tonight, so was Montero, man our youth movement in the rotation is going to be a fun show. Hopefully, Niese can return to his 2012 form.
I don't know, but we sure as hell have to find an everyday spot for him if he keeps hitting like he has. What a start at the show for the rookie, 5 games, 9 RBI's including, double triple and today for career HR in the bigs. Must say the kid plays and hits much older then the just turned 22 he is.
I'm kicking around the idea of going to see the Mets in San Diego this weekend. I would drive down Saturday morning and come back after the game on Sunday afternoon. If my math is right that would mean I'd see Harvey pitch on Sunday. That almost makes it a must that I go. Me and my 5 year old got matching Harvey shirts while we were in NJ. Weird start time on Saturday... 5:40 San Diego time. I know the Yankees were in SD a few weeks ago and their Saturday game started at 5:40. Must be a Sat night thing with the Padres. Saturday night is also Padres flip flop night.....lol BTW Jose Abreu has defected from Cuba... he is a power hitting 1st baseman and was the MVP of the Cuban League. I think the Mets need to consider going after him. Ike is trash and this guy could finally give us the big bat we have needed at 1st. He tore it up at the WBC and by having the money coming off the books this could be the big splash for the Mets this offseason.
We just got rob tonight by the umps in LA a clear no swing, called a swing and then in the same bases loaded at bat the HPU calls a no doubt ball four, a strike. That call took away the tying run and ended the inning. One of the worst calls I have seen in pro baseball in a very long time.
I'd push hard for Abreu. Then move Flores to 2b with obviously Wright at 3b. That would be an exciting lineup, along with the likes of d'Arnaud hopefully making the step up. The Mets could make a huge jump forward next season with the right set of moves. By signing Abreu & moving Flores to 2b the Mets could look to move Murphy & Davis to see what they could bring back. I doubt the Mets spend big money on anyone though.
I agree completely on Abreu, it seems the only way to get value on free agency these days is going after the international players
horrible calls, but I watch a lot of baseball and the umps are constantly badly blowing calls that aren't even close. The quality of umpiring is very poor, and the union protects them from accountability.
I don't even think it's a consideration at this point. They need to go after him. I see him as a potential .300 hitter with 35-40 HR a year guy. The lineup could be pretty dam good with him inserted Young Lagares Wright Abreu Flores Obviously we would still need a SS as Quintinilla is no long term answer and you'd have to think Byrd will command more than the 700K the Mets are paying him this year on the FA market but if he could be brought back even if they pay him 1.5 million I think it'd be a good short term answer in RF until we can look at better options. I think Quintinalla is servicable and there is a bunch of crap available at SS next year we might have to suck it up. The only players at SS I might take a look at would be Stephen Drew or Yuniesky Bettancourt who are a step above Omar but nothing spectacular and Drew ius going to ask for way too much to even be considered.
This season has brough more positives than we ever imagined Wheeler , Lagares , Syndegaard , Flores , Harvey , D'Arnaud , Montero , Den Dekker , Puello ( good figures before and after his drug issue) will all be part of this team for years to come..that is a decent talent level coming through the ranks....add Wright , Niese , Byrd ( potential 1 more year ) , Murphy ,Gee , Parnell and we have a core of talent that should make us compete Add an Ellsbury / Choo in outfield and either an above average SS and we will be a WC next year...it seems a long time since we made it anywhere near. This team is 2-3 players away as the core is so strong for 2014 ....2 x 1a pitchers , solid No 2 in Niese ..strong prospects plus Gee as the No 5.. Line up of 1B - Davis / Flores 2B - Flores / Turner 3B - Wright / Turner SS Furcal / Tejada CF - Lagares / Den Dekker RF - Ellsbury / Byrd LF - Choo / Brown C - D'Arnaud / Recker Lets go!!
I'm not a big fan of going after Choo, his power has regressed over the years since his best year but he still hits for decent average. Met fans would expect him to hit 25 HR's which I don't think would happen with half his games at Citi Field. I think he'd probably be more a .260 12-15 HR's 70 RBI guy. Basically an expensive Marlon Byrd. For that production I'd rather double what Byrd is making this year and try to find another RF in 2015. Abreu has to be the guy the Mets go after but word is Boston will press hard for him. He might hit 45 -50 HR's playing in Fenway. I could also see the Skankees going after him and moving Teixeira to DH.
