i see it this way...if belichik didnt find any reason to keep a 4th round pick from the past draft, throughout the entire 1st season of the player, why bother? does mangini actually think he will find some hidden talent in a player, that beli missed? he was probably picked up for film room sessions leading up to the pats game.
my bad, i should have clarified my statement further, but the logic has already been posted on this thread.we are obviously not searching for another DE, and must be searching for our d-lines biggest need...a DT. why do we need another 4-3 DT? why bother picking him up? unless the reason is for patriot defensive insight.
New England obviously drafted this guy to be a DE. Why else would a 3-4 team draft him? Besides, I can't think of any schools besides Virginia that use the 3-4. Many 3-4 ends are really 4-3 DTs forced to move outside due to the system.
so you are saying we need even more DE depth? who on our roster could he over take on the depth chart?
Ellis, if the plan to stick with using him more at OLB. Any of the Average 3-4 Ends we have now who get little to no pressure more often than not. The anger being displayed about taking a chance on a recent draft pick, by a very good drafting team, seems absurd. He's young, cheap, and cost us nothing to obtain. Why be upset? If he fails to do anything it cost us nothing to look. Funny how two other 3-4 teams ( San Fran and the Ravens) also put claims in on him. Is it possible that every team running a 3-4 in the NFL know less about what type of player fits it then some of the posters here?
our ends are average because we have nothing in the middle to command double teams, and i'm not upset. i just dont see the point, when we need something else. if you are thirsty, do you eat sand to satisfy it? is it possible that some posters on here think like mangini....grab every new england reject we can. ellis is not playing olb, they are doing the same thing the ravens have done for a while now.....every one is upright to confuse the o-line as to who is dropping and who is rushing. i highly doubt ellis will be covering many TE's or RB's in the near future.
Well, When I' m thirsty, and I have half a beer, and someone offersm me another at no cost, I take the beer. The thread was on how he is a bad fit. Again, if he's such a bad fit, why have so many 3-4 teams shown interest in him?
There are very few college teams that run a two gap scheme. NFL teams have to project based on measurables, game film and workouts who can make the switch to the 3-4.
