Then if he is a shy small time guy, he shouldn't be on the Jets list, I didn't know he was a guy who wanted to work in anonymity. and we may be the JV team in this city, but you can't deny the fact that we are the most covered franchise in the country since Rex Ryan has taken over, whether that be good or bad. In NY when your good, you are the toast of the country, when your bad (like this year) your a national story. I actually think that the pressure on the Jets to suceed next year is almost as high as it is for the Leafs, think about training camp, when they would write a story about Tim Tebow taking his shirt off
Whoever comes to the Jets as the GM has to like the limelight and has to have a thick skin to deal with the New York Media and fans....they love you when your up and are a pack of pirhannas when your down.
Exactly, thank you so anyone who can deal with that stuff, the best candidate will go to the jets, I don't expect them to pick their 4th or 5th option, if they fit the bill they will get the best guy out there
I think your argument does hold some merit. The Jets are in the biggest market in the world, with a very passionate fan base, and an owner willing to spend money. They don't have a QB, but most GM vacancies are in that position. Matter of fact, its why most GM positions are open to begin with. So you have to be up for that challenge. This is not a JV franchise by any means, as some have been suggesting. I don't think there will be a short list of candidates. The Leafs is an even more presitgious job, with a huge following and media scrutiny, and a similar wait for a championship. So the argument holds up in my eyes.. However, with the 2 candidates in question, you have to consider they have it really good presently. They love where they are, and the organization has committed a lot to them in return. DeCosta already making GM money, and is heir apparent. Dorsey a Packer for life. Those 2 may not be looking for a move at this time, and i wouldn't blame them. That doesn't mean there won't be a line of other candidates pursuing the opportunity though.
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter Jets and Jaguars have asked permission from San Francisco to interview 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble for their GM jobs.
I'm not done thinking things over, will be pondering this for a couple of days, but right now I think Tom Gamble and Marc Ross are currently my leading candidates for GM. But that may change as I get deeper in to things.
Bear in mind I'm not considering a few just because I don't think they'd leave their current situation to come to New York, or anywhere else for that matter.
You can knock moves of any GM in this league. The bottom line is Polian has accomplished more as a GM than anyone on that list and it's not even close. He knows talent evaluation inside and out. As I said, the fact that he's 70 may be the only thing making him think twice and he also may want nothing to do with this recently dysfunctional franchise.
Shouldn't the Jets be interviewing candidates from teams that have actually developed a quality offense? 49ers o is ok... Not great Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
You could be the "best you can be" and still work in a small market. The beauty of the NFL is there is a salary cap so it doesn't matter if you're the biggest market or the smallest market, you can be equally successful and recognized. Not everyone views it the way you do that you need to win in NY to be considered the best. Quite the contrary, a lot of successful football people want nothing to do with NY.

His wife graduated from Juliard and she starred on Broadway for 7 years. She's always wanted to move back to NYC. Not really but it could be true! Dude's wife will play a large roll in what he decides, so we need her scoop too.
