My Ticket Invoice Arrived ~ Another Brutal Increase

I feel your pain, but the Jets are a business. The tickets are a luxury, not a necessity.

 

I am in 331 and my seats went to $75 from $65,,so even though I am only 8 rows from being able to change the floodlamps for them the fact that my seats are midfield justifies to them to charge me more. Very unfortunate. Maybe my daughter will kick in this year(not).

Now you're in the bullshit forum using that I said $7.25 is a good deal for a Guinness at the Meadowlands as an example of idiots on the message board.

I'll try to explain my position one last time. A Guinness at a bar in New York City is $5. So I don't think a $2.25 mark up at the stadium is such a big deal. Especially when you consider that Bud Light, which is disgusting cheap ass beer, is the same price at the stadium.

Now it appears that your argument rests on the idea that the $5 you would pay at a bar is outrageous. The mark-up is high - that's true. But that has been true of bars for many years. Not everyone has the space, know-how, or resources to brew their own beer. Plus, the reason bars get to charge that high mark-up on beer is because they provide a fun environment and it gives you a chance to get out of your house or apartment.

Now I could spend the rest of my life sitting in my apartment drinking homemade beer and watching the Jets on TV instead of "wasting" my money on going to bars and going to Jets games. I could obsess over how much things cost to produce versus how much they are sold for. But I prefer to have an actual life, even if that means overspending sometimes.

In conclusion, $7.25 for a Guinness is not really a good deal on its face - I'll admit that. But I think that is a good deal COMPARATIVELY as in compared to what you would spend at a bar and compared to what it costs to buy a Bud Light.

 

The thing is, and I didn't even realize this until I googled it, Aramark is Harry M Stevens. They bought it, so it's basically the same food they've been serving at stadiums since the freaken 1920's.

My tix went up 5 bucks a POP, I thought it would be 80. Also there is a letter stating about the closing of some Parking lots due to construction.

 

Personally, I don't understand the talk about the food or beer prices, or whats available with it. First off, the cost of food and drinks should be paid for by itself. As crazy as the prices are, why should they have to dip into others pockets who aren't buying their overpriced products, or double-dip into those who are? I personally have always tailgated and drink outside, on an extremely rare occasion, maybe once ever three years, would I ever pay for their food and or drinks. Secondly, as mentioned earlier, their have been no improvements for the fan base. With the lone exception coming from those inflatable thingamajigs outside, which I guess for families is ok, I think I've walked in their once or twice. But all they do is really sell more crap to make money off of anyway, so we shouldn't be paying extra to have that. The parking is crazy, so is exiting and entering the stadium. The bottom line is, as stated before, they do it because they can do it.

 

I remember when I got my season tix back in 1995. Four seats @ $25 each and only had to buy the regular season, not pre-season. When Parcells came to town, tix went up and buying included pre-season.

It's a business. At the time the Jets were the lowest ticket in the NFL. I can complain all I want, but I also know that there is a long waiting list of people dying to get season tix and I'm not about to give up 12 years for a price increase of $5/seat.

There was a story a few years ago about a guy who was a season ticket holder for the (I think) Indy Colts. When he got his invoice, he wrote a nasty letter complaining about the constant price increases...He got a letter back from the Colts front office with his check and cancellation of his season tix.

It cost Woody alot of money to buy this team...we all want the best players on the team to make us Champions one day...that's the cost of business. We go out every year buying new Jets gear...caps use to cost $15, now cost $20-25...it's a business. Tough pill to swallow. I don't like it any more than the next guy, but I'm glad I'm not on the waiting list either.

My tickets would be worth alot more once we win a Super Bowl again...

 

Right now I have the little charcoal grill and if I get a few people together we cook out, etc. When I'm older I plan to take the next step. I see people out there--no shit--with the RV or van with DirecTV hooked up, NFL package going, huge grill, tables, etc. Those people rock, I merely roll.

 

I paid $800 for 4 seats in 1986 -- this year's invoice is $3150 for 3 seats. (Yes, I had to give one up a few years ago.)

It's gouging, it's not business, but I have the option not to renew.

Of course, that's not really an option since I've allowed the Jets to become a huge part of my life. They are the dealer's and I am the addict.

However, seller beware ... 227 is right!

Someday, soon, the season tickets will move beyond the financial means of fans like me and 227, and JI2004 and Seafood and all of you, the seats will not be occupied by people on the waiting list, they will be occupied by corporations just the way they are today at MSG.


And when the meaningless preseason games go unattended, and when the team suffers a downspell and half the stadium is empty in November and December, and all that parking and concession money drops down, the Jets and the rest of the NFL will reap what they are sowing today.

When you take the game away from your constiuency, you can't survive the downturns as well.

 

Here is my suggestion to fix the problem. I would guess now the NYJs are worth 1B or more so just plunk down your money & buy them from Woody. Then you can roll prices back to the 1960s level so the NYJs will always be a "family" team using your words.

Look getting serious you say you owned a business & when you did did anyone tell you how to price your product or service you offered? Instead of ranting about something that will not change just make a choice of either anting up or letting your subscripition lapse & go on since there is nothing that will change the pricing policy of the NYJs. I would also mention IMHO if you were the owner you would be doing no different then Hess & now Woody is doing which is get the most you can get for the seats. IMHO also I doubt very much if you really care of Mr. Joe Blow as you are just totally pi$$ed about the price increase.

 

Let's all remember fellas, season ticket money is just part of the revenue stream for Woody and his billionaire pals...they're also making money on the TV contracts, NFL merchandise, plus concessions and parking.

 

I don't get what the point of it is, though. Doing it in the parking lot is so much better that it's worth all the extra costs?

 

Hockey died long ago. They will keep increasing prices, it will not stop, because all of us crazy die hards will continue to pay it. Eventually it becomes all corporate suits at the game, much like the Giants Games I have gone to. It sux, and I am on the waiting list, and I am stupid enough to pay it, so if you want to see those two tix for this coming season, I will buy them from you.
