I think this is apparent to most people, but I have a sinking feeling that Shottenheimer is not going to give up on Jones at all.

Seriously, for a big guy he goes down at the first contact every time. Has he even broken a tackle yet this season?

Actually, he has. The problem is that the ones where he goes down on first contact are so ridiculous that you easily forget the times he fought for some yards. I've never seen a RB act like this before. It's like watching Deion Sanders take handoffs.

Jones is my big problem with the offense. He's been my pet peeve since the beginning of last season. He takes what is given to him, because he is not a power runner, he is heavy on the finesse aspect of being a cutback runner. It infuriates me that some people think he is a power runner. He has never had the physical build to be a power runner, and that's probably why he got hurt a lot early in his career.

He just doesn't run with good leverage at all. And when he sees the hole closing, he turns his back to the field of play and falls backwards. We definitely need to see a hell of a lot of Shonn Greene in the second half of the season if we're going anywhere with a balanced offensive attack.

Great assessment as always. I pretty much agree with every single one of your points. Above all, it?s a refreshing and insightful post mortem evaluation of what went well and not so well. Here are some observations that should complement your views in my opinion.
    a) Unlike the past 4 games were the defense strategy was clearly to maximize our strengths against the opposition weaknesses and neutralize their biggest assets, the exact opposite took place against Miami. Miami developed an offensive strategy that consistently matched their strengths to our defensive weaknesses as if they new exactly what our game plan was going to be. We were clearly unprepared and out-coached and it showed. What kills me if that we made no adjustments after the half to fix that. Our scouting and planning was obviously way off the mark.
    b) Defensively our players seemed often out of position, pushed around and missing more tackles in one game than in the previous 4. They talked and talked but not with their pads on.
    c) Our offense is coming along much better that I would hope. We must continue to open up the passing game on first down particularly with Edwards (read awesome) and our running game will flourish. More carries by Green and Leon. The TE situation needs to be addressed. If Keller is not a primary target then you have to wonder, because blocking is not his strength. Our version of the wild cat is telegraphed way too early. Let?s get a little creative
    d) Our Special team game plan is what outstanding planning should look like. The defense and offense need to learn from the master.
    e) If we ever play a game with all 3 facets clicking we could be unstoppable.

hahah.. Sanders was one of the biggest pansie-asses ever in the NFL.

Part of Jones' running style might be in part due to self-preservation and to try not to get hurt.

    A) Absolutely. We were completely outcoached, and it showed.
    B) Points directly back at A. If you're unprepared it shows. And it did.
    C) Yes. Sanchez is the best QB I've ever seen put on a Jets jersey. I'm completely comfortable saying that even just 5 weeks into his career. Edwards is exactly what I said we needed since the day Coles was no longer a Jet. As for Keller, Sanchez admitted yesterday that he hasn't been looking for him. Sanchez has committed to making the effort going forward. And when Mark says he's going to do something, he clearly makes good on his promises.
    D) Yes. Westhoff is a genius. I was fully in favor of him taking over the head coaching job in the past, and I'm still ecstatic that he continues to stay with us. If the entire team prepares like our ST, we're a Mack truck steamrolling a bumper car rink.
    E) Yup.

Absolutely. Just like Neon Deion, afraid of pain. But a running back?
