1: get rid of the Sanchez, pace, Harris and other dead contract weight 2: trade Tebow for a 5th or 6th pick 3: draft gio Bernard 4: sign a stop gap qb until we can develop a real qb (through this years or next years draft)
I don't think Herm was a great head coach. I think he was a decent coach who lost it at the end when he went through one of the Jets patented "who? what? where?" seasons with all the talent dropping out at once. I think he should have had a chance to recover from that given that losing your QB, backup QB, C, RT, RB and TE is quite a lot to try to keep up with and nobody could have managed that in my opinion. There were injuries on the defensive side also, they were just outweighed by the ongoing catastrophe on offense. "You play to win the game" is still my favorite moment ever out of a Jet's head coach. The man was right and he communicated exactly what needed to be said in front of a NY media that was ready to pile on top again. The Jets recovered to put together a good season. That says all you need to know about Herm under pressure. 2005 was just a disaster that would have buried Vince Walsh Rockne. It's a shame that it drove Herm out of town because truth be told he handled the NY media better than anybody before or since. Well, other than Parcells locking them all in a cage every year and growling at them.
Gary Kubiak is an excellent case for continuity breeding success and he's an excellent comparison to Rex. Kubiak's always been an excellent offensive mind, but it wasn't until he got Wade Phillips to run the D that he became a good head coach. I think Rex Ryan needs a Norv Turner or Ken Whisenhunt to make him a complete coach, bc let's face it - the dude does not know how to develop an offense. Also, Bill Cowher missed the playoffs 3 years in a row from 1998 to 2000, with 7, 6 and 9 wins respectively. Jets will win at least 6 games this year with the schedule they have, so don't give me any crap that Cowher's never had a bad season. Rex went to as many AFC Champs in his first 2 yrs as Cowher did in his first 6 seasons.
You're right, Revis may be the greatest Jet to ever wear the uniform. The question is, whether in today's salary capped NFL, you can pay an all-time great cornerback 14-15 million dollars a year and still field a Super Bowl contending team.
Continuity is a horrific trend I have been seeing lately- people are not looking behind the numbers- How has that continuity worked out with Norv Turner with a very talented roster?
I completely disagree with what you got here. First off, if you're aiming at a Cowher or a Gruden as your HC, then you'll need to make them the GM too. You can't lure a coach of that caliber out of the booth and give someone else the GM duties. Secondly, look at last year's playoff winners. Everyone one except John Fox is a HC who came from the offensive side of the ball. We're losing games because our team can't figure out how to score points! My list of HCs: 1. Sean Payton - FA and has ties to NY. 2. Jon Gruden 3. Jay Gruden 4. Bill Cowher - not a fan but he'll bring respect back to the franchise. I wouldn't want a college coach. We've been 0-3 on first time HCs with Woody. Clearly he needs to go in a different direction. Easier said than done. Revis is a once-in-a-generation player. There's a piss poor record of teams trading away their superstars for packages. See Herchel Walker. Here's the problem: Sanchez and Holmes are guaranteed money and they're untradeable because their value is way less than what they're owned. We've also effectively killed Tebow's value. However, if I were an incoming GM, I'd call Jacksonville and ask for 5th rounder from him (and count my lucky stars ifthey gave a 6th). See that's the trick. BB doesn't just trade, he pumps and dumps. He recognizes which veterans are overvalued, and he trades them. He has multiple picks in the top rounds not because he trades down, but he trades down because he's able to get 1st round picks for guys like Richard Seymore and Matt Cassell. When you have players other teams want, you can afford to stockpile and trade down.
Not sure exactly what you mean by this. As I recall, trading Herschel away for picks was the best personnel move that the Cowboys have ever made.
It got them Emmit Smith, Russel Maryland, Kevin Smith, Clayton Holmes and Darren Woodson. That was a great trade. One of the best RBs ever, an elite safety two very good corners and an excellent DT, that was a major part of their Superbowl champion teams.
I'm not agreeing with him but it is a fact that Sanchez doesnt have any weapons around him. Name me one good or great QB who doesn't have weapons? Now with that said I'm not saying Sanchez is or would be a great QB,but have the Jets given him enough weapons over his career to successful?
Agree with you there. You could legitimately argue that it's one of the best personnel moves in NFL history.
1. Get rid of tebow 2. We may be forced to keep Sanchez because of his guaranteed money next year. 3. Judging by our position we would have a top 10 pick. Draft a playmaking RB. OLB in the 2nd round. 4. Push for Michael Vick! He would fit perfectly in this offense with a RB threat and gives Sanchez instant competition. 5. Cut pace, Scott, and Eric smith 6. Depending on Revis contract demands, trade him for multiple draft picks for depth. Cromartie has proven he can be the #1 corner. Our defense needs to get faster and stronger against the run. 7. Re-sign laron Landry! He's been a beast for us this year. 8. Do NOT re-sign shonn Greene!
Vick would be a downgrade at this point the guy is always hurt and when he isn't hurt he turns the ball over more then Sanchez,And trading Revis will be the biggest mistake this teams ever made in a passing league,If it was 1970 trading Revis would make sense but with all the great QB's in the league I want Revis on my team not somewhere else for stupid draft picks so we can draft another linebacker. If i was trading Revis id want it to be for someone his age with the same skill levell, like a Calvin Johnson, We could draft two busts that we ended up trading Revis for. BAD IDEA!And Greene has to come back atleast as a number 2 we have no one else. So basically you want to destroy the team!!
Greene is overrated. We take a RB in the 1st round and keep McKnight and Powell for depth. Greene is awful and has no vision. Michael Vick would be an upgrade over Sanchez, the only downside is his ability to stay healthy but him behind o line would work out fine. I'll say maybe you're right about the Revis thing but we don't know if he'll return to be the same Revis after the knee injury. Adrian Peterson is an exception for that type of injury
I'm going to add 1 person to the GM List: BRIAN BILLICK He knows Rex from their days together in Baltimore. Personally, I want Rex to stay and think he should stay - and with the relationship they have together, I think Billick would keep Rex. Billick also gives you an offensive mind. Not that he would be GM and offensive coordinator, but from the standpoint of evaluating offensive personnel, I will take his mind and experience over any input from Sparano every day of the week. With my scenario of having Billick as GM , I will also throw in a name for an Offensive Coordinator - Jim Tedford- former coach at Cal. A wonderful offensive mind that has had success and has been in control of the offensive side of the ball for years. He did coach Aaron Rodgers at Cal..... ......and I would not hire Norv Turner to do anything in our organization. Not even to drive the bus to and from the stadium
The Jets need to go oline early in 2013. Remember that awesome line a few years ago? Cheap and good linemen mixed with veterans . RT, WR, OLB, OLB, TE or something like that.
Not even close to enough money. The least valuable franchise according to Forbes is the Jags sold for 760M Forbes has the Jets as the 6th most valuable franchise at 1.28B
