uh..we were draft losers. We didn't want Gholston. We traded up for a TE that can't block. Get use to it. Both may turn out to be great players but that doesn't change the perception of the draft at all.
If we didnt want Gholston...why did we take him. I dont get the logic of people that say that to try to make the decision a bad one. If those that dont like the pick state exactly that...I get that. We didnt want him? Im sure we could have traded down or...this may sound crazy...took someone else?
Only reason why most "experts" had VG go at no.1 is because Tuna is running the show down South. Thats why VG is worth a first. VG is worth a 15th if he lands in TanGinis' lap. Do we really believe these ratings? Call us losers if its so obvious you MFs, for instance, if we took QB Ainge with the first or second. Keller was not a reach as most "experts" had him go to the Saints at the 40th. We took him with the 30th and, considering the Shockey situation and Giants at 31st, this was not a reach. We took the players near the spots most of these stupid "experts" had forecasted. Who's the big loser now u SoBs?
First, there are few things as meaningles in the NFL as grading the draft the next day. Nobody knows how these players will perform. This draft will be graded in 3 years. Second, I think the Jets wanted Gholston all along. Think of what he brings to this team. The Jet pass rush has been anemic ever since Abraham was traded. Gholston has the potential to become the playmaker this defense sorely lacks - a player the offense has to account for on every snap. The Jets just did not need McFadden. They have three very capable backs and a revamped OL. The OL makes the RB, not the other way around. Besides, McFadden could easily be a bust. The Jets had no business trading up because the first six players were interchangeable. Any of them could have gone first to Miami - Gholston, Ryan, Dorsey, McFadden,Long or Long. The Jets did just fine at 6. We will have to see about Keller, but clearly no team in the NFL was enamored with the WRs in this draft. I also think that Harvey may have been a find at 6. But what do I know? Let's let these guys play before making ridiculous statements about winners and losers now.
This is so true. Pats drafted a QB that I can even remember. Analysts at NFLNetwork were all like, "I like this pick, I think this QB is a genius pick by Belichik. He will prepare him for the future. Matt Cassle is not the next Brady" and bla bla bla. If it was the Jets, they would have been like "Im not sure if this was the right choice. I understand the Kellen-Chad situation but this was just a waste of a pick. This QB will not even make it to the TC." I was as excited as those ANALysts. A stupid 5th round QB...hell yeah atleast one pick goes down the drain for those Prickriots
Who said we did'nt want Gholston? If so, why did'nt we take a CB at 6 or even trade down? Yeah, the Saints were all in to trade up as they ended up doing with the Pats. A TE who can't block?...who the heck wants this TE to block? We have plenty who can block. This one will be the next Jason Witten type of TE whose job description is to catch some balls, not try to stop some fat arses at the line...
Funny, I just saw in another thread where Mangini is quoted watch tape of Gholston in January (the same time i was watching Ghoston ) and thought to himself that he could be the 6th overall pick... sound like Eric wanted VG ever since the start of this year. And that TE that can't block, is reported to be one hell of an athlete and offensive threat who is a film geek. Other film geeks on this team include(d) Vilma, Rhodes, Revis, Harris, Ellis, Cotchery. I have a feeling we didn't get the players you wanted, sir. Same with the experts- thats why we are losers. I guess we should call this "the draft of players no one picked in their mock own drafts"- which of course makes the Jets losers, they didn't pick the guys the fans want.... because we all know more.
I second that. It will be that much sweater if we can defeat NE twice. I don't just mean defeat, I mean beat'em convincingly. I feel we did a great job thus far in this offseason, and draft. We will certainly be a surprise team to the public, but to us jet fans who follow our team closely it will certainly not be a surprise. Those idiots who publish that crap in the paper obviously don't follow the jets that closely. We already had answers on this team to begin with. We just needed to fill some holes, and we did just that.
ROTFL... "They may be good, but they weren't at the time of the draft because the Jets didn't get anyone that was already taken. Plus, I didn't want them, so how the hell can they be good?"
Somethiong interesting to think about.....without that extra 2nd rd pick, from the Skins trade in 2006, we would have had no ammo to trade up to get Revis and Harris.
Why I call it a loser draft for the Jets and agree! The front office and coaching staff doesn't know what they want or what position is needed. 1st pick was a tweener DE/OLB who reminds me too much of the last tweener we drafted at DE and now play at OLB, and don't forget he has a higher than average salary on a contract we gave him just last year. 2nd pick was for yet another tweener who plays WR from a TE position. We can't run the ball to save our life yet we trade up to draft a TE that can't block. If we wanted a big WR we had the best opportunity to get a taller faster and more proven WR without the trade up. Let’s not forget either that we just signed Franks ($1.65M, who is also know more as a pass catching WR. 3rd pick was for, yes yet again a tweener, but this time at S/CB. The kid in not fast and has more experience at safety than he does at cornerback. If we wanted a safety there was better ones available and even though he has some height he will get eaten alive by the faster WR in the pros. Yes I know our head coach likes players, who are versatile, but we don't need a bunch of jack-of-all positions, we need specialists at key positions. Lastly, let me say the most dominating question we have had for the last two years on offense was QB and we are still are left with a BIG question mark. For the second year in a row we had the chance to draft the top ranked QB and passed. Well to be fair I wanted Flacco not Ryan, but we didn't even get the second best. So for the draft we get a C+, but for FAs I give the FO an A+ for the great players we signed and the two non-drafted players I like that we signed after the draft.
^^so Gholston reminds you of Bryan Thomas? wow Franks has a one yr contract, so don't think he's doing too much here, obviously you don't know how Keller is going to be used in the offense- i think you'll like what Schotty does. Lowery is depth, plus he has good intangilbles. If he is playing safety than why is he running 1 on 1 with WRs?? If a DC did that, they'd be executed at the 50yrd line, at halftime. QB, is a problem, but the FO thinks that with the new O-line- someone is going to thrive. Also, to fully evaluate a QB, they need a good O-line--- and i don't like the QBs either. Its not as bad as you think. Gholston is not Bryan Thomas, i can't believe you made that comparison.
Wow JetsFan, you certainly have some poinsts. Your first point is that our FO does not know what the Jets want or need. That right there sums up how much u know about a team is run. Tell me one thing, after the 4-12 season, if the coaches do not know what they want or need, would'nt they be looking for a job rite now? Do you think they just wasted the last 4 months after the season and did no scouting? "1st pick was a tweener DE/OLB who reminds me too much of the last tweener we drafted at DE and now play at OLB" Who gives a shit what Gholston reminds you of. If Gholston reminded you of Namath (somehow), then would Gholston start playing QB? "2nd pick was for yet another tweener who plays WR from a TE position...Let’s not forget either that we just signed Franks" What player does he remind you of? Did'nt he remind you of T.Gonzalez, Witten, D.Clark, or Winslow? How long will Frank last in NY? 1 yr? 2 yrs? 15 yrs? Is'nt he clearly better than our 3rd WR? BTW I dont even know who'll be the third. He'll probably lineup at WR slot from time to time. "3rd pick was for, yes yet again a tweener, but this time at S/CB. The kid in not fast and has more experience at safety than he does at cornerback" This is a 4th rounder. Did you expected McKelvin to slide a few rounds all the way to the 4th? You graded the FO an A+ for their FA signings. You did'nt seem to object that Woody has actually more experience at the C postion than any Guard or Tackle. Still gave an A+ and not an A-? "Lastly, let me say the most dominating question we have had for the last two years on offense was QB and we are still are left with a BIG question mark...For the second year in a row we had the chance to draft the top ranked QB and passed. Well to be fair I wanted Flacco not Ryan, but we didn't even get the second best." Do you know who we drafted instead of those 'maybe he'll be the next Manning' QBs?
