Well said. And no, there is no certainty that if we stay at 6 that one of the 4 QBs will be there. We need to show some guts. I would prefer to pick from either Rosen, Darnold or Mayfield. I think Allen will need to sit and learn longer. QB IS the most important position by a long shot. History shows most draft picks do not pan out. At least one of our 2 second rounders most likely will bust.
Because history shows at least one of those picks will flop. There is a much higher chance of a 1st round QB being a franchise guy than in any other round. You wouldn't trade Devin Smith or Stephen Hill (2nd round pick) swap firsts to move two spots to 4th? Maybe throw in a 3rd too?
I think the Jets would go for Rosen, Darnold or Mayfield, as they would fit well into their offense. If you go to 4 you may not get one of them if the Colts trade to a QB needy team.
SOJ fans playing it SAFE and WAITING for a miracle to FALL into our lap at 6 Once the Enterprise and the Capt set course for Minnesota or Denver WATCH how posters have a change of heart to move up like KC and Philadelphia did
I get the gist of the thread, which is why i've been saying since the draft order finalized that it didn't really matter that Denver finished in front of the Jets...of course it would be better to be at 5 than 6, but reality is that both Denver, Jets and probably others know that #3 is what you need to target to get a QB. Sitting tight at 5 or 6 etc... probably won't do it with the #3 pick being so valuable to the colts in a trade down scenario, there's probably no way they don't trade it unless Browns/Giants take a QB and Barkley is still there...which would then make a trade to #4 necessary. BUT, you clearly don't make a trade until draft day unless you're trading to #1 as you'll need to know who's still around...trading to #3 right now just locks you in to a position that may not get you the player you've targeted assuming that you don't rate all 4 top QBs the same, which i'm sure they don't.
^ Right. It’s also not like the Colts are oblivious to what the Broncos and Jets needs are. Without the clock ticking away, the Colts can take an offer from 1 team and shop it to the other — and so on. The clock during the pick limits the perpetual back and forth.
Yeah. I'm over Cousins at this point and I want the Jets to move up to 1 and get whoever it is they want. My opinion is Mayfield, but I'm fine with any of the QB's. I just hope whoever they take is the right one!
Unless you absolutely LOVE a player it’s hard to trade up.. you can’t just blindly move up and hope he falls. The Rams Loved Goff so the paid up, Philly Loved Wentz so they paid up. What’s the trend??? They knew 100% who they were getting and so they moved up for their guy!!!! We can’t just move to #3 and hope we get the guy we love.... if he falls to 3 then you make the deal and pay the price because you are getting the guy you love!!!
Best QB draft class since 2003. I think Darnold and Rosen would go #1 in most years. And Sanchez wasn't a good QB, he had very few starts and even his own coach, Pete Caroll, now a SB winning head coach, had told him to stay at USC and develop for one more year.
what if Darnold and Rosen go 1-2....is giving up 2-2s worth getting to pick between Allen and Mayfiled versus having to take the one thats left?
What's the point of trading up now to #4 or even #3 for that matter? You are still going to have to settle for a QB if the top 2 are gone. If you're going to trade up now, then go for it and trade up to #1. This way you insure getting the guy you want, and secondly, the deal is done and you don't have to worry about a bidding war as draft day approaches. Trading to #3 (or 4) is something you might do on draft day depending on how the draft is going.
Darnold and Rosen going 1-2 is probably the best scenario imo, as I believe Allen and Mayfield are the better QB's. I don't see trading up as a good answer unless they have a much much higher grade on 1 QB in particular, and I'm not seeing a complete standout slam dunk option in this class. Hopefully we get Cousins, but otherwise stay put at #6 and see how the draft unfolds.
Chances are the Browns take Barkley at #1, so there is no point in trading up to the 1, plus it will take a King's ransom to move up that high. There is literally no reason to do that. If you trade to the #4, you guarantee one of Mayfield / Rosen / Darnold and don't have to trade the farm for them. Yes, obviously you wait until draft day to do this. Moving up asap is stupid, because you have no idea how the draft will pan out at this point, plus the Jets could still sign Cousins. No reason to force a trade prematurely. If they KNOW they won't get Cousins they could do it early. If Barkely and Chubb both go in the top 3, you trade up to 4 and still get a pick of 2 out of 3 of them. If the Jets already know the QB they want and are worried the Browns might take him, THEN you consider moving up to #1, but the way I see it as long as they get a top 3 QB prospect, they are in good shape. I just don't trust Darnold. He's got bust written all over him. I'd hate to see them trade the farm for him. If they make such a move, it should be to pick Mayfield or Rosen, IMO. Allen shouldn't even be a thought in the top 6.
There are a lot of "ifs" and "chances are" in your argument. If you move up to 1, you eliminate all of them.
Yep, and you also eliminate the team depth when the Jets have tons of holes to fill. The draft is a complete crap shoot outside of a few players like Barkley, Chubb & Nelson. There are very much tons of "ifs" and "chances" even if you trade up. I don't think it's worth the price to draft a potential bust. Trading to #3 or 4 makes way more sense. Nobody knows which QB out of these will succeed, if any.
No, it's not impossible unless Bates just doesn't know or feel comfortable with that kind of offense, but it would make it more difficult for the existing Jets offensive players. Instead of building upon what they did in 2017 and progressing further in that system, they could be starting over from scratch with a totally different offense with a different philosophy. That could cause the offense to take a big step backwards in 2018. In addition, unless the Jets were starting Jackson or Allen day one, they'd also have to sign a FA QB who has experience in that system. I have no idea which of the FA QBs that might be. If they sign such a QB, it would have to be to a short term deal, and he probably wouldn't be that good or he wouldn't sign with the Jets knowing that they had a #1 pick that was going to see the field sooner rather than later.
I'm not against moving up to the top pick if the Jets have identified their guy(hopefully a QB) and believe he will be taken if they don't move up. I just don't see the Browns giving up the 1st pick when they can get a franchise changing player themselves. But stranger things have happened and there's well over a month until draft day.
