You have to find a team to trade down with. It's easy to say, "trade down" according to the value chart. You have to find another team who wants to trade up, which often isn't there. Maybe it would be, but I don't think Thomas Jones should stop us from drafting McFadden.

I think people on this board are overrating TJ. And people who call McFadden all hype seem to ignore numbers and production and speed. Maybe he busts, maybe he doesn't, but "hype" doesn't give you back to back Heisman runner-ups. Being a damn good back does.

  3. I believe the main reason for this is many REFUSE to give in to the idea of taking a player based on value and not on need. the "Trade down" cop out is just another excuse for not comprehending that you dont specifically HAVE to fill a glaring need w/ a first pick in the draft.

Besides the fact that Mayock is the worst draft analyst ever, Mendenhall IS the best RB in the draft, DMC is the biggest playmaker.

I've made it known 100x already that I don't want DMC over Gholston, but if gholston is off the board, you must take DMC.

I'm even growing to the idea that you take DMC over Gholston, because Vernon is even more overrated than DMC.

  5. True about mayock. He did however have a very good point about his boy mendenhall last evening. Mendenhall was only elite for ONE season. So he's far from a proven commodity.Dmac on the other hand was pretty much dominant from his freshman year on at Arkansas in a VERY tough conference.

Another good point. I guess if we got a mid to late first and a second for the #6 to get DMac and then we ended up with a Mendenhall or Sweed plus 2 very solid 2nd round picks, one really could not argue with that.

not to mention, despite the gimmicky Offense and the luxury of Felix Jones, many teams stacked the box knowing damn well McFadden was getting the ball, and he still carved up Defenses. so that further adds to his proof.

  8. ..And the fact that Illinois had just as gimmicky of an offense w/ inferior defenses

Yeah and trade down isn't always an option.

If you watched his game against LSU you would have to think differently.

LSU has/had one of the best defenses in all of the country and he straight up TORCHED them.

SEC is a very physical conference and he played very well.

I don't see how he is hyped...he is the real deal and will make big plays in the NFL.

Overhyped!?!?!? Some of you guys should watch some football and develop your own opinions rather than latch on to some two-bit writer's cooz.

This kid came in as a true freshman and immediately set records!!! How he is overrated and overhyped I have nooooo clue.

chi, carolina, cinn are all drooling over a RB (assuming DMC is there at 6)
balt, carolina is drooling over a QB (assuming Ryan is there at 6)
dallas has expressed interest in trading up

Thats 5 teams right there that the media has reported, who knows how many others are thinking move up just like the Jets did last year behind the scenes...

If we want out we will get out, this mgmt team is very competent when it comes to that.

Every year a team trades out and trades up. It shouldn't be that hard IMO.

We have a 1600 yd back on the squad now in T Jones with our new revamped o line. Last year with possibly the worst O line in the league and poor QB play he managed to get 1200+. An extra 30 yds a game to get to the 1600+ rushing number should be no problem at all.

Think about it, these RB saviors come out every year - S Jackson (04), R Bush (06), A Peterson (07), M Lnych.....etc. we dont need to reach for this "savior" when we are very capable at RB already. In fact most of those guys I just mentioned had better college careers and faced stiffer competition than DMC.

Like I said earlier in this thread,we should be using the draft this year to build the team and fill the glaring holes such as LB, CB, WR, and QB(hedge against Clemens failing). That is the right move to make for our run in 2009 or 2010. You go for the DMC type next year when the team is more solid all around. Picking DMC now is putting the cart before the horse, especially when there will be a great back to get all the rave next April.

    Really?

When's the last time a team traded into the top 6?

  16. But none of that answers the question as to why you think he's overhyped and overrated? How does us having TJ make him overrated?

    Don't worry, he won't.

  19. That was what? 7 Years ago? And it required the use of 2 first round picks to make it happen. There's only one team w/ 2 first rounders in this draft and theyd be foolish to trade up w/ the state of their team..

Dewayne Robertson was drafted in the 2003 NFL Draft...so that would be 5 years the day of the 2008 NFL Draft.
