It's really not true. He was not signed by a team for a long time after he was released by the Jets. Finally NEP signed him and he was no. 3 Qb there when they almost always only carry two Qbs. He wasn't good picking up the Patriots offense but did throw 2 TD passes in the last exhibition game. After that he got no chance with any team not even a sniff. You would think a player with his credentials and a good winning percentage as a starting Qb would at least be invited in for a try out. Esp. when no names were being signed after injuries and even getting a chance to play. He's being blackballed.
Why would Tebow be blackballed? ESPN has a significant portion of the network TV deal and as such a fair amount of clout around the league. They obviously want Tebow playing somewhere because they think it is something they can sell. There's no way he's blackballed for any reason other than the one that gets most players blackballed: he can't play the game well enough to play in the NFL. It's not like he hasn't gotten looks from several high profile teams in his NFL career. He just hasn't done much with those looks. That's the problem. Denver was a golden opportunity for him and at the end of the day John Elway decided that Tebow wasn't a good enough QB to play for them. It's been all downhill from there. Tebow's path to salvation is to go somewhere and play regularly and fix his mechanics in the process. Kurt Warner did it in the Arena Football League. Warren Moon did it in the CFL. Both of those options are still around. Pretending that he's good enough to play in the NFL right now and ignoring the legitimate paths that he has to improve himself will end Tim Tebow's career. If you ask me he's just too proud to do what has to be done.
Its fitting ESPN gave him a job, they're one of the biggest reason he doesn't have one in the NFL. being an underwhelming QB is one thing, being one that gives the media THAT much of a hard-on is the last nil in the coffin. he's not being purposefully sabotaged, he's just screwed by a lack of talent and a rabid fan base that attracts the wrong kind of attention. the wins don't mean crap because nobody feels he's reliable enough to do what he did in Denver again, and nobody WANTS him to get the attention he brought in New York to their town again.
Yeah, this is it, in a nutshell. I think that, minus the accompanying media/fan circus, Tebow probably would be on an NFL team's roster as a QB project/short yardage specialist. However, with that circus in tow, he's more trouble than he's worth.
Those late round picks would not have led us to the playoffs, but it showed the mind-set they had they regarding the offense. They would rather "replacement Brad Smith" by trading for Tebow then acquiring skill position players and get depth via the draft.
Everyone deserves a chance including Mark Sanchez. You can't tell me Tim doesn't even deserve a try out. He's that terrible a player. That he has no game at all. As for him being a distraction because of the Tebowmaniacs. It probably goes deeper than that. And that could be the reason why. I'm not sure but some of the political groups on the religious right play rough (they make Chris Christie look like a choir boy). And might try to put tremendous pressure on organizations to start Tim (when they don't want to). Who wants that. I'd like to see him get signed somewhere and go to camp with a team. If they cut him like NEP did ok. But you can't tell me he isn't a better player than some of the Qbs signed during the regular season after all of those injuries. We had a big injury at Qb too. Sanchez was out for the season. And just before they cut Tim there were rumors that some of the Jets coaches liked Tim and thought he was playing pretty good football.
something like 10 games as a starter with 3 years in the league is not getting a chance? what is tim being on your practice field going to show you that the tape doesnt? hes a running quarterback whos not as fast as most tight ends that cant throw the ball accurately and consistently. what about that is so hard to understand? HE GOT HIS CHANCE ALREADY
Sure he got those starts had a winning record led his team to the playoffs and beat the Steelers. Of course if you're a Tim hater you'll say it was inspite of him but that's total BS. He was the starting Qb and won those games. Including beating us with a 20 yard run. He got his chance played well and then all of a sudden is person non grata in the NFL. You might hate his game but you can't tell me he has zero talent and shouldn't at least get a try out. So why are you against him even getting a try out. But it probably won't happen. He probably would have signed a futures contract with a team already. He's getting a bad deal.
what dont you understand about the fact that he got MORE than his fair share of chances? just because every team in the league didnt bring him in to practice doesnt mean he never got a chance. he started, got to the playoffs, and the consensus of the executives around the league is that he is not a viable option at qb. why does there have to be some vast conspiracy against a guy who has more chance than a lot of guys who were much better passers and faster runners when he isnt starting or on a team years after he entered the league? he had his chance and blew it. move on dude.
Steve, he didn't get a chance. He was traded to the Jets and hardly played even though Mark Sanchez imploded. They had nothing to lose by playing him at least give him a half or a start. He had only 8 pass attempts the entire season. Almost never a series, just one play and then taken out. Then he was released. And not signed for 6 weeks. Finally NEP signed him and he was no. 3 in a two Qb system. The backup even never plays. So he got cut. I agree he wasn't very good in pre-season for them although he did throw two TD passes in the final exhibition game. I was in Boston that night and watched it on TV. After that not a sniff. Despite many injuries and no names signed for roster spots. Not even one tryout. So to me he has a resume. A winning record. And a skill set. Enough to get a least a tryout. I think he's being blackballed. There is no way he isn't better than some Qbs on NFL rosters. So I don't agree when you say he's gotten his chances. He's not the first guy whose hit the wall like this. Just because front offices won't sign him doesn't always reflect on the player's on the field ability.
Tebow couldn't beat out Sanchez early on, even though the Jets offense was completely stagnant through training camp and with the exception of the Bills through the first quarter of the season. He couldn't get on the field even when the troubles for Sanchez accelerated in the second half. He was banged up with rib injuries and other physical issues by the time Sanchez completely imploded at the end of the season. The bottom line is that if you cannot beat out Mark Sanchez at his lowpoint you are not an NFL QB. Nothing we've seen since then suggests anything else.
You're just kidding here, right? Snow day, working from home, throwing a line out there? I got home about an hour ago and I just poured a nice 21 Year Old Balvenie and I think it really hit me hard because your post has made me hallucinate. _
teams in the nfl are in the business of winning. if a team thought tebow could help them win he would get a look. as it stands, he has had a season where he started, led his team to the playoffs, and was traded from that team for not being able to put together a complete game with a stacked team. the broncos didnt just dump him for no reason. just because he never started with the jets doesnt mean they didnt give him a chance to play, he never made a big play despite being plugged in repeatedly. you can think what you want, but that he is not even getting looks as a practice squad player that can be had for pennies and cut with no consequence means he is not qb material. if he were to change positions, he might get another chance to show a team what hes got, but thats a big IF and not a guarantee either because frankly, hes not that athletic compared to the rest of the league. no names are being signed when qbs go down over tebow because no team wants to change their entire offense to fit a guy that isnt even that good when the offense is tailored to his limited strengths as a qb... mainly running on tired defenses or broken passing plays...
Tebow is not eligible for the practice squad. You have to have less than two year's service and there are some other restrictions also.
Now that I've trashed Tebow--the only Jet I've ever truly disliked-- I feel the moral obligation to confuse matters a bit. About 3-4 weeks ago, Trent Dilfer was on the Michael Kaye Show and Kaye said he had heard a rumor that Dilfer had been "working out" Tebow. Dilfer was adamant that he did not/does not "work out" QBs, he watches QBs. That's all he does--he watches tape of everyone and analyzes them. He said had been asked by Tebow's camp to come watch him throw. Just watch him to give an honest opinion. Supposedly, he'd been working out with a new football/QB guru who has COMPLETELY changed his throwing motion, drop back, mechanics, everything. As if he took 15 years of throwing one way and unlearned it, then re-learned how to throw. 10,000 reps. Not throws, reps. Drop backs, pivots, rotation, footwork, planting, the whole nine yards. And in Dilfer's professional opinion, he said Tebow is a completely completely completely different thrower. Still not sure it makes a difference, but there you go. _
if I had a nickel for every time i've heard he's got all new better mechanics I wouldn't be able to buy something because a few nickels can't buy s#it, but I'd have a lot of nickels though. heard it all before, we'll see if NFL rosters are listening.
Agree 1000%, he changed his throwing motion every offseason, and when he was under pressure he reverted to that awful wind up and windmill. I don't think you can unlearn something that's been ingrained in you for 15+ years. Just reporting what Dilfer said. Btw, in my opinion Tebow is done as an NFL player and that's exactly what he has "earned". _
Let him prove it on the field. Not just have his enemies say he sucks. If he does then so be it. He has a career in the media. What was Rex afraid of down the stretch in 2012. That he would play well and make him look bad. Probably. PS you can throw like a little baby girl and still complete a pass. It don't matter as long as it gets there.
