It's amazing how low this board has sunk. Some of the posters on here amaze me with their stupid stupidity. Whenever anybody here expresses an opinion, it has to be torn to shreds by angry shred tearers. It's a shame, really.

I think I might disagree with the article, but I also think I might agree with it.

A lot of respondents to this article have written things like "should fake field goals and flea flickers and reverses be banned too?" There is nothing in the article to suggest that. Nothing even close. It is a very specific idea limited to kickoffs to start a half: to have a coin toss decide who gets the ball, then the results of the coin toss should be respected. If not, why not start the second half where the second quarter ended with whoever had possession?

I understand that many, many people have their own point of view on this and will think what Sean Payton did was bold and creative. I don't agree with that way of thinking. I have my point of view. That's the beauty of life in this world. People think differently and there is not just one way to see things, there is not just one perspective. I think what Sean Payton did was dirty. Most people don't. That's fine. You are entitled to think what you want. I am entitled to think what I want, and I dare anyone out there to take away my point of view.

Let's be clear about this too: nowhere in the article do I suggest that this play cost the Colts the game. In fact, I said the onside kick did NOT determine who won. The Colts still could have won. Even if Payton did not decide to do it, the Saints still could have won. I also said the Saints outplayed the Colts.

In my opinion, you do everything (within the rules) on the field to win the game. It's a battle. But the coin toss does not take place on the field of play. It's a simple decision on who gets the ball to start the first half and the second half, who gets the wind or which side of the field to start each half. Because the coin toss takes place off the field, then how that coin falls should be respected. Period. After that anything goes. If you score a TD on the first possession of a half, and then decide to try an onside kick to get two possessions in a row, fine: go for it. It doesn't matter whether the other team is ready for it or not.

However, when a coin flip OFF the field decides who will get the ball, I think it should be respected no matter how many "brilliant minds" call me moronic.

Obviously the coin toss determines 1) who elects to kick off or receive (the coin toss winner's decision) and 2) which side of the field the loser of the coin toss elects. I don't "believe" anything. I know the rule. And if you want to challenge my knowledge of NFL football versus yours, I'm afraid you'll lose, and I say that because you have the nerve think you know what I believe.

The coin toss does effectively determine who gets the ball. The winner gets to decide if they want to kickoff, if they want to be kicked to or receive, if they want the wind or a particular end zone to defend. So players say for example "we want the ball." It goes without saying that they won't necessarily get the ball if they elect to be kicked to. The other team may decide to do an onside kick. I think that is all perfectly clear from what was written and how it was written.

The premise of the article is that the rules should be changed so that only on kickoffs to start a half the team kicking off must do a regular kickoff, deep, squib, etc, but not attempt an onside kick.

I know you used the phrase "the biggest idiot of all-time" as a figure of speech. I know you didn't expect me to take it literally. Because that would imply that you alone among the 6+ billion people on the planet had some divine means of discerning which poor one of us is the biggest of all the big, big idiots of all past and present time. But I knew that you weren't actually saying that you had such powers.

And if you or others here think that calling me names has any effect, you are barking up the wrong tree, and rather immaturely I might say. Just as my opinion on onside kicks has no discernible effect on you, your opinion of what I wrote or your opinion of me has absolutely no effect on me. You may want to consider that next time you respond about how stupid something is. Just as you don't give a crap about what I think or what I wrote, I don't give a crap about what you think.
