Exactly. Had he been speeding, he would've been ticketed for it, and it would have been mentioned in the article.
As per ROTOWORLD ESPN reports Jets RE Muhammad Wilkerson was treated for "minor injuries" after his car flipped in an early Saturday morning accident. Wilkerson was charged with careless driving and failure to maintain his lane after striking another car at 4:29AM. The police report didn't indicate Wilkerson had been drinking. Even "minor injuries" could have Wilkerson questionable for the beginning of camp, though the Jets say he'll be ready. Coach Rex Ryan and DC Mike Pettine have both gone out of their way to praise Wilkerson this offseason, with the latter saying he was the team's second most impressive defender in OTAs after only Darrelle Revis.
Just like any accident, thankfully he's not seriously hurt. Any word on the person, people in the car he hit?
I'm glad he is ok, that is the most important thing, 2nd thing is I'm glad alcohol wasn't involved. I had 2 girls I knew from high school both fall asleep in seperate incidents about a year apart and had accidents on the Parkway, sadly they weren't as lucky as Mo.
This kind of story just drives me insane. You make 7 figures a year, take a freaking cab if it's 4 in the morning.
Great news Mo is ok. It always amazes me all the bad accidents especially rollovers on the Parkway. I travel on it alot and speed is always a factor.
Right. He wasn't ticketed for speeding or reckless driving or DUI. He was ticketed for careless driving and failure to maintain his lane. That means he nodded off at the wheel and had an accident. The careless driving was because when you are tired you are supposed to pull over and nap it off for 15 minutes. That's all it takes.
I'm guessing he fell asleep here, or nodded off momentarily. There's been a bit of an ad campaign here recently regarding driving while tired, and pulling over for a 20 minute nap if so. Very much doubt it is alcohol-related if he is a practicing Muslim, since alcohol is prohibited.
Let's not make a big deal about this. If you are at fault in a car accident in NJ, you get a ticket for careless driving. It is a 2 point violation. It is a lesser violation than reckless driving or excessive speeding.
In a related story, Rex Ryan told reporters he was very surprised by news of Wikerson's accident. Ryan said, "Mo is one of the best drivers in the NFL. In fact during our recent mini camp he was positively dominant in that aspect". Ryan went on to say that he was sure that Mo would recover from this minor set back and be back at the top of his game within a few days. The reporter caught up with the Jets HC in a local NJ mall where he and and Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum were running errands for Santonio Holmes and Darrelle Revis
I'd bet it was because he was the first one onto the practice field, and the last one out of the weight room. He was over-tired from being impressive in mini-camp.
