i cannot watch a sports event on a vcr, dvr or any other kind of recording device. just not the same. and yes i realize its probably delayed by 7 seconds from the stadium through cbs, through the air to the antenna to the processing equipment, through the cable plant, to my tv. but its still just not any fun to watch a live event, unlive.
I always watch my games DVR'd. Because I realized it just wasn't any fun to watch a football game (or any other sport) and be inundated with their barrage of obnoxious advertising. Most Sundays I start the Jets game an hour after it starts. I just ignore my phone until it's over because I know it's my friends shit-talking the Jets. The only sporting events I ever watch in real time anymore are the ones I attend, or if I am watching at someone else's house. The latter of which is rare because I bitch for 3 hours about commercials.
Thats fine for away games, but when you have tickets, it just sucks. With this new stadium, you can`t even sell tickets for face value unless you have those few really good seats that are priced accordingly. There aren`t too many in that stadium. The really good 50 yd. line seats are just too expensive. No one is going to give anyone $700+ when they can simply buy them at the stadium. And the Upper Deck $50 seats are so available, can`t sell them either. The Jets would`ve been better off playing in a smaller stadium. Supply would be shorter and demand would`ve remained the same.Woody fucked up.
Personally, I feel it's more fun that way. You can pause whenever you want, rewind plays to analyze, you never have to watch commercials and sit there waiting for the game to come back while you are so excited and you want to see what happens next. If it's new to me, it's live. I don't care if it happened recently. It has the exact same impact for me. DVR changed football and sports in general for me. You don't have to invest nearly as much time, which is great if you're on a tight schedule. You can literally watch a game in just over 60 minutes if you do it right. I won't ever go back to the constant game stoppage and breaks before and after the kickoff. It's too boring waiting around for all those stoppages so I take them out of the equation.
I can't watch a Jet game on DVR(for the first time), maybe I will pause during a game(and w/ 2 young kids that happens a lot more now) but I can't record it then watch it later.
DVR, VCR, Live, Laserdisc, whatever. The results are the same. And with the Jets of the last 45 years????? Well, nothing else needs to be said.
I disagree, if I pause it I only do it for a moment then in btw plays will fast forward to live. I can't record it and watch it hours later, there's no way I wouldn't be able to stay away from the score.
My only concern watching the game recorded is people spoiling it for me, so I just ignore the phone if not live. I usually do what Abysmal does and watch the game an hour late. By the time it gets near the end of the 4th I'm caught up to live and I saved an entire hour of time that I could be doing other things. The illusion of having to watch it live is strictly in your head. Watching it live or a day later is exactly the same unless you convince yourself otherwise. It's the same game, watching it later changes nothing unless somebody spoils it for you. I'd rather not watch an hour's worth of commercials per game. It is completely wasted time to me. Hockey and Basketball are different because there are much less stoppages in play, but NFL breaks constantly and I just can't stay focused and in the game with all that.
