If you watch the play, Zach just needs to slide left (not back) and Jeff Smith or EM is wide open on the left side of the field on a slant. Ty wasn’t the right pass. That play is designed by BB to force the QB to throw the ball over the blitz pressure because they won’t see the disguised middle zone. If Zach looked down the field there’s multiple open WRs, but you have to slide left into the pocket, not backwards
The scheme obviously works if Breece Hall was enjoying success in it. Carter had success in same scheme last year before his injury. It’s not the RB they have, Carter and Robinson will have success if MLF commits to running the ball. Wilson is definitely leaving tons of plays on the field and that’s even more reason for MLF to not burden him with carrying the team right now. I also get why MLF uses 5 receiver sets, keeps defensive players away from LOS but there has to be some middle ground where the run is still used without leaving Wilson on an island.
I did not go back and look at the play but this is Zach's problem when he scrambles. He needs to step up, sideways, whatever but not backward.
It's not just this season though. They consistently get bad calls at home from the refs. They would be better off playing all their games on the road.
One point I think a lot of people are overlooking is the loss of AVT is bigger than losing Hall. AVT is one of the best run blockers in the league right now. Losing him hurts our entire running game.
This, combined with the Patriots playing soft coverage to run clock. Belichick is an expert at clock management. He'll trade yards for time all day if it means he gets the win.
Mims playing halfway decent Sunday doesn’t give me much hope for Moore this season. MLF seems to hold grudges. He clearly had one with Mims and now he’s got one with Moore. Saleh really needs to reign this MF in if he’s actually holding guys out because he has personal issues with them. And if not Saleh then JD.
Remember the end of the Denver game where the coaching staff did not trust Zach to get one first down to ice the game? Jets ran the ball three times and then had to punt it away, allowing the defense to win it with one more stop against the Broncos. Now, if the coaching staff does not trust Zach to get a first down in such a key situation, why would they allow him to throw the ball three times more than they ran it against the Pats? They don't trust the guy to throw a five yard pass for a game ending first down, but they put the entire game plan on his back the following week? Hard to see Zach developing into a productive QB under this type of tutelage, which only seems to be confusing him and preventing him from building an identity.
Can we step back for a minute please. Some of the responsibility for what's happening with the team goes back to the drafting of Becton. At that time we had a choice of 3-4 great offensive linemen to choose from. Instead of making the decision to draft the player that was not a freak of nature who had many pundits concerned about his overall ability to stay healthy they drafted Becton because he was such a total monster but had extreme problems staying at a healthy weight and being able to play a 17 game season. The idea was to get the best protection for our young QB. As soon as he got injured things began to unravel. Now we had to juggle linemen and depend on some who also could not hold down the left tackle slot and not worry about them. Since then we waited for a year for Becton to come back around and hoped that now Becton would live up to the hype. Instead he instantly reinjures himself and is lost for another full season. So now we are left scrambling once again. We've now seen every possible combination of O line play possible and what was supposed to be strength has become a major weakness. Then throw in the injury to AVT and loss of Breece and the offense is severely limited in what they can do. With Zach I felt that he needed to have that A+ line in front of him so he could play better and learn more. The previous season he did struggle quite often one of the bright spots for him was the play of Moore who lit up the field with his great play and ability to score from anywhere. Now add to him the drafting of Garrett Wilson and I had dreams of the Jets having one of the very best tandems in the game once they got time to adjust to the pro game and add experience. But instead of utilizing Moore and having Wilson and Davis run wild they choose to basically remove Moore from the game plan week after week. So yes he got frustrated, you got to remember the praise heaped on him from everyone on the team including MLF. Then once things got going Moore became a forgotten player. Why? Here you have a very young player who was being hoisted on a pedestal and thought of as a definite integral part of this team at the end of last season. Remember he is very young and was having his head filled with expectations of doing great things alongside of Garrett Wilson, the two of them would set the league on fire. So what made MLF take Moore out of the game plan, getting just ten snaps and two throws is not how you show a young player who has played at a very high level in his limited time on the field that he is appreciated and will be seeing the rock come his way. Now add in the loss of Breece Hall who was setting the league on fire every week and even more damaging is the loss of AVT because without Becton and AVT the line became a virtual sieve for pass rushers. You would think that your QB would need a player of Moores ability to take some of the heat off and play a roll as a quick relief to give a target for Wilson. Well none of that happened, the overall O line problems can be attributed to drafting Becton instead of the much more reliable Tristan Wirfs whom would be the anchor we needed all along. Decisions have consequences down the line and Becton was absolutely the wrong decision for a team in desperate need of quality secure and reliable players. I understand that we did not know how fragile Bectons knees would be, yet the wrong choice was made and that lies in the lap of the coaches and Joe Douglas. Stop blaming Moore for being immature, and instead come down off the high horse and admit that the whole situation should have been handled differently by men who have years of experience in situations exactly like this. Don't punish the kid, instead treat him as a man and have a meeting with him and get this straightened out without feeding the media hype train that only makes things worse.
We played RIGHT INTO pats hands, exactly what they wanted, let Zach beat them through the air. We see how that ends. There's no rhyme or reason to the offense.. it doesn't flow,, and we end up playing from behind.
We are DEFINITELY not properly utilizing our offensive talent. It is mind boggling. Mims can flat out play, but they seem more interested in punishing him than playing him. Let's play Jeff Smyth...ok We have 3 good backs, let's throw it, no swing passes, no play action, this is more MLF than anything else. I dont want to hear SHIT about Mims not knowing all positions, thats bullshit. Play him, and run the fucking ball. MLF, isn't as genius as he thinks he is.
MLF pulled a Schotty. The Pats have been struggling against the run, so he outsmarted Belichick by throwing 40+ times.
After the Pat's game, I understand why they don't trust him. He had a wide open lane to run for at least 15 yards on 4th and 5 in the 2nd half and instead tried to throw it into a tight window. And that was one of his more excusable mistakes.
I disagree. I don't think MLF was trying to teach Moore a lesson. That's silly. Moores neglect was a direct result of Zach Wilson not knowing what the hell he's doing. Zach was discombobulated SHIT in that game. After his first couple throws he was complete and utter garbage. Moore was playing out of the slot and that's a good thing designed for Moore to have a successful day. Zach simply didn't know how to find wide open wide receivers in that game. MLF has no interest in teaching Moore a lesson. When Moore and the players on offense succeed, so does MLF. The amount of snaps is a little low but I think that's much more of a function of trying to get Zach to start doing his job.....
this - it boggles my mind as to why we dont run any screen plays, jet sweeps with moore/G. wilson. why is smyth/berrios in the game? you drafted wr high but you're using st/practice squad player. GTFO of here....
