The winner of the Matsuzaka bidding will probably be announced around this time tomorrow according to the Japanese media. This is not official, only a rumor.

Chan Ho Park worked out so well for them, they would be stupid not to go after another Asian Ace.

The two could not possibly be more different if one of them was a blind hermaphrodite amputee with Down's Syndrome.

And you know this based on? Youtube clips?

Both will be overpaid, both are from Asia, both are pimped by Boras.

    The Rangers should know better.

Not saying the dude isn't goning to be good. It just seems that everybody the Rangers throw money out end up becoming a burden.

    Based on:

Matsuzaka is a 26 year old rookie who has been DOMINATING a league that is rated as slightly better than AAA and Park was 29 year old who had pitched 5 semi-decent years in the NL.

Park topped out in the low 90's, with a decent curve. Matsuzaka is generally in the mid 90's and has been clocked at 98. He also throws two breaking pitches, including an amazing curve, a sinker, and a forkball/change.

Plus Matsuzaka has pitched very well against MLB hitters when he has faced them.

Bottom line. If the Rangers sign him, he will be a bust.

I heard from a guy I know that is a beat writer for a team in the NL West. He told me he heard from somebody within his organization that an AL West team won the bid and he thought Texas was the winner.

    The 2 latest Matsuzaka rumors:

    1. Two Japanese tabloids reporting there is a lot of tension in the Seibu offices, as word is starting to come out that the bid may have been considerably less than the $30M+ expected. Infact, it could be half of that, only a little more than what Ichiro's posting fee was.

    2. A few unconfirmed, unreliable sources are saying that the Cubs may have won the bidding at $28M (which would totally contradict what the word in Japan is.) However right now this rumor has been almost totally shot down.

I would think if this is the case one or possibly both of these happen.

    A) Seibu decides to keep Matsuzaka in Japan and let him not negotiate

    B) The Yankees did not win the bid and may not have even bid at all

My thinking is the rumor is not true.....
