V-Mart leaving Boston for Detroit in a 4yr, $50mil deal *shrug* They still have Salty, will probly offer arb to Varitek and can focus on another bat like Crawford or Werth and resigning Beltre.. http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/mlb/news/story?id=5842176
World Champion San Francisco Giants resign Aubrey Huff to 2 year, $22 mil deal. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5842539 Adam Dunn gets offered Arb, which probly limits where he can go. He probly lost a fair amount thanks to this. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5842783
Jon Garland is done. I think he'll be okay as the fifth starter in LA, but I don't think he has much left.
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/...tml?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter greinke may consider large market teams...
Did a decent job last year when we picked him up late, or maybe 2008 but I think 09. I didn't see much of him this past year except against us and he was ok. We have Kershaw, Billingsly, Kuroda and Lilly back but you never have enough pitching. Jeff Weaver still out of the pen in a pinch, too.
Lets take a look at the Red Sox off season so far.... They lost Martinez to DET because he got pissed off by the were the handled his situation. In contrast they had to bring back Veritek, who probably wouldn't have been back if Martinez left. They attempted to sign Rivera from the Yankees by offering him a longer contract for more money, but he signed with the Yankees today. To me, that sounds a hell of a lot like when the Red Sox and their fans said they "couldn't contend against" the Yankees money when they offered Tex more money and and extra year and took it. The Sox had to tender Papelbon instead. Beltre is tinkering on being strike three. He isn't happy that Martinez is gone. Just have to wait and see if he takes Oakland's contract. I guess they will most likely land either Crawford or Werth, which would be pretty big for them. Gotta see where it happens still, but so far.... oye
I heard Will Carroll on the local radio station here the other day and he said Greinke is going to get traded to Texas. The Rangers have a deep minor league system and the Royals have the best according to many experts (which just means more top notch players they won't resign)
Well, it finally happened. Sorry Yank fans...the Red Sox just got a hell of a player. San Diego trades Adrian Gonzalez to Boston. Per rotoworld: I'm hoping Ryan Kalish is involved in this deal. Oh and for the record: Fuck Boston.
Looks like it's Adrian Gonzalez for RHP Casey Kelly, 1B Anthony Rizzo and CF Reymond Fuentes. Kelly and Rizzo are supposedly two of Boston's top three prospects. Fuentes is a former first rounder that hasn't really lived up to his potential. I would've loved to see A-Gone remain a Padre for life, but that wasn't happening. This was the best move for the team. The Pads are also aggressively shopping closer Heath Bell. I don't really like this move either, but there's just not enough money for this guy. Hopefully they can get a solid middle infielder and/or some power arms in the bullpen.
I look at the Padres much the same way I look at the Rays. They put a good competitive team on the field last year and the fans didn't show up. The Rays I understand because they have a shite park but the Padres play in one the nicest stadiums in pro sports. Can't blame the owners in either city if they don't resign or trade away their highest paid players. San Diego was 18th in attendence and Tampa was 22 ... sorry for two teams that were as good as these teams last year that's ridiculous. The Reds will have the same excuse as they were 20th. http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance
Now that he's out of Boston, at least Baseball America and Keith Law will shut up about how incredible Casey Kelly is. But yeah, great deal for the Sox.
He was an under-ager in AA and showed dominance. He obviously still has to improve his command but he really could be one of the top young pitchers in the NL in a few. Rizzo and Fuentes hurts too.
I wouldn't say Fuentes hasn't lived up to his potential. He's 20 years old and guys like him develop consistent hitting later in their career. Rizzo and Casey are our two top prospects probably, but there isn't room for Rizzo anymore obviously with Gonzo here now.
