Thanks for the info, I had no idea they let Clemens walk. They went 4-5 with him as the starter last year including wins over the Colts, Bears and Saints. You'd think that would have been enough to bring him back given they were not as good a team with Bradford at QB.
Vick for Kenny Britt in a heartbeat.. Will take my chances with Geno and Simms for a receiver that can stretch the field.
No chance at all on this. The Jets aren't going to give up Vick unless they get a deal that is overloaded that they can't refuse. I'm reasonably sure that Geno is going to hold the Job and play well at this point but the injury factor is real and he might not hold the job. Michael Vick is the best player in the NFL to be the Jets backup QB at this point. He can do all the things Geno can do and so the Jets offense won't have to change if he needs to play for any reason.
Forget Vick.. Vick is here until Week 17 and then he is gone.. If Geno happens to shit the bed this season, then we draft a QB next year.. We can get a potential Top-10 talent in Britt for a 34 year old Vick who probably won't be playing football next year??? If we don't stick with Geno next year, then the new QB coming in would have Decker and Britt and Amaro and Ivory and CJ2K to work with.. And you wouldn't do that?
I know there is no possible chance of this happening, but if I were Idzik I would make that phone call and inquire.
Imagine what Geno could do with Britt, Decker, Kerley and Amaro... Jesus. Vick sucks and if we can get a talent like Britt who is only 25, there is no possible negative you could tell me with that deal.
How about Kenny Britt has already had a torn ACL/MCL in his career and been suspended for "numerous" incidents with the police?
I will take my chances.. Vick won't make it 6 games without dying on the field.. Vick is here a year tops and Britt could be here 5+ years. His injury was in 2011 and he has been fine since.. I don't like the incidents with the cops, but like I said its worth a chance... IF he does pan out for us, we won't have to waste another pick on a WR for a long time.
My God the stupidity in this thread. We should worry about the CB position over the QB position? Really?
While I get the reason why many think it likely Vick will not be with the Jets next year, it's not a certainty. If Smith plays poorly enough, Vick comes in, plays well and stays healthy, then the scenario of drafting a Qb next year with a high pick arguably becomes a reason to keep Vick next year to allow the newbie Qb to get up to speed. I like Simms, too, but the Jets don't seem to. Rex in particular, who imo knows less about Qb's than some posters here. Maybe the Jets could trade Simms to the Rams for the right price. Anyway I think the Rams are prepared to go to battle with Hill as their Qb, and are instead looking around for someone to back him up. Vick would not be a good fit in that situation for them. Simms would be better for them, and it would probably be better for him, too.
He certainly knows how to disrupt QB's. That's obvious given the number of times he has made good to great QB's look ordinary.
We are way more set with Geno at QB than we are with Wilson and company at CB... With the death row of QB's we are about to face the first 9 weeks, yes we should worry about the CB position... ALOT.
Geno has yet to show he can play like an average QB. Him turning the ball over 20 times is far more hurtful to the team then Walls and Allen on the outside. Dee will be back for week 1 or 2 and we should perform much better in the secondary. Also remember teams need to cut players so we could find a CB via the waiver wire. Terrel Thomas might be worth looking into to see if he's healthy.
What FA Qb would be available? I haven't attempted to think that far down the road, but the Jets might not e able to get a solid Qb in FA, and by solid I mean competent, healthy and a prospect to stick for five years or so. So I think going high pick in the draft would be the better option of those two. Doing that in fact would lead the Jets to consider keeping Vick for another year, to hold the fort and allow the newbie to develop.
I entered this off season having high hopes for Milliner going into this one. But there's now a prospect he will come back at something less than 100%, and having missed pre-season preparation could also hurt him. In the short run, I am concerned Milliner may not be that great a help.
