I see your point. Sparano is getting Sanchez killed anyway - so if we're going to get the QB killed, maybe we could do that in style. (If you didn't get it: Ok. Sparano is not the answer. BUT THAT DOES NOT MAKE MARTZ ANYTHING CLOSE TO SOLUTION EITHER.) It was Dick Vermeil's team that Martz built his fame on. Not what he 1. made or 2. he envisioned. He was just lieutenant for Vermeil; when he took over, Warner got shelled (1) Faulk got shelled (2) and lost SB to Gaytriots (3). Two words: FUCK HIM.
If the Cardinals are foolish enough to fire Ken Whisenhunt, then he'll find another head coaching job in no time.
So basically, according to what you just said, It is more important that players not be pushed ... Oh wait, Look @ your 3rd point....the SuperBowl..pfft imagine that. Pushing your players to the max and getting to the big dance, what an amazing concept
You just don't get it, do you? Let me lay it out for you. 1. Martz's offense system is a variant of Coryell offense system. 2. His flavor favors downfield passing a lot more; so in that regard, his variation is more 'robust' version of Coryell offense than, say that of Norv Turner. 3. That said, he has no regard for the protection of his QB. At almost all times, his passing plays involve 5 eligible WRs all free-releasing. This means, the OL would be hard-pressed to handle the impending pass rush for elongated time. What killed Warner in St. Louis was that his 7-step drop schemes didn't have adequate protection around. 4. On top of that, Martz does not value the ground attack. (This is a defining difference between Martz and Turner.) I, for one, think ground attack has to have a substantial part in any robust playbook, so if you ask me, that guy is a dumb fuck from the get go just because of this. 5. About SB run and aftermath: Like I said, IT WAS VERMEIL'S TEAM THAT MADE MARTZ LOOK BETTER THAN HE IS. Look how he did after he left St. Louis. His track record after the Rams is pitiful to put it in nice terms. 6. It is NOT about players not pushed. Look at the number of sacks given up in Martz's lead. It usually is in range of 40+, at times bordering 50+. That is not how you win games consistently. Cutler said "Tell him I said FUCK HIM!!" for a reason. You cannot sustain good offense without good protection - and for that, Martz has absolutely no regard whatsoever. I just have no idea why you are so enamored by this fucking idiot. 7. If Martz does get the OC job, some guy up in foxboro will be laughing his ass off in his office - then will have very hard time hiding his gloats in public. It will be an epic disaster.
Lifelong Ram fan here. Martz is convinced he is a genius and has no concept of the overall team game. He took a Vermeil Super Bowl team with a maginificent yet very immobile QB and said fundamentals, OL and turnovers do not matter because his schemes would prevail and drove it into the ground. He got Kurt Warner slaughtered to the point of brain damage in the New Orleans game then he followed that up by getting promising QB Mark Bulger slaughtered on a weekly basis. I'm not sure if he ever had an OL draft pick until the later years when the fan complaints were overwhelming. He never would have even ade it to the SB against the Pats (lost because of Rams horrible fundamentals) if Marshall Faulk had not demanded the ball in the second half of the Eagles game. At SF, the complaints about his phonebook-sized playbook were legend. Make him a WR or QB coach and he might be a net benefit.
