Jets needed to win in 2015. Mac got the players to do that. We should've made the play-offs. That was on Bowles & Fitz Jets had heightened expectations in 2016. Were they unrealistic in hindsight? Its hard to blame Mac for the composition of the 2016 team. Some on here claim that we should've kept Snacks, or not brought back Fitz. I can't kill him for signing Wilk & Fitz. 2016 Vets performance is on Bowles, except for Fitz, which is on him. The Vets quit after the Rams game. That's on Bowles too. Locker room has been a shit show from day one, when IK punched Geno, and Bowles canned IK. Bowles has to be a stronger force or the inmates will run the asylum. I don't think he's here beyond 2017. I'm sorry, but I just don't see him as a big time HC in NYC. Mac might have a little breathing room. Getting a QB and fixing the line is priority one. That's on Mac. He needs a big draft. Jets have to show some hope. If the team shows promise in 2017, we might be able to entice a big-time HC. Another listless, hopeless season and he will be gone too.
If we have any chance we need to deliver at the draft this year bottom line. Mac has to draft the right guys no excuses. Now it so happens that THIS draft is uber weak at QB, OT and OLB..... just typical Jets luck..... this makes it all the more difficult! I just hope he doesn't draft out of desperation and reach for positions of need over talent.
Casserly and Wolfe must secretly hate Johnson...where in the world did Bowles earn the "respect among coaches" ?? Who ever heard of an NFL HC who CANT DO items 1-4 ??? Send him back to HS for training
Whoa! Totally not fair. McCagnan was the one who made the decision to give big money to those vets not Bowles. He knew that Revis was 30+, He knew that Wilkerson had maturity issues (missed team meetings in the past), He also knew that Fitz was not a good QB. The more alamring part of McCagnan however has been his drafting. Taking Devin Smith and Christian Hackenberg in the 2nd round when he knew that he was going to have to replace D'Brickashaw, Mangold, Pace, and Harris was egregious. No way to put lipstick on a pig. McCagnan did a bad job in 2016 and so did Bowles. Both deserved to lose their jobs, and are lucky to get another chance. Just ask John Idzik.
This is true. 2017 is less about win-loss results as it is with roster development. We kept these two guys and Woody needs to commit to them beyond next season if things look as though they're heading in the correct direction. It'd be an absolute mistake to fire them after a 5-11, 6-10 season where the roster is playing together, playing hard and the team is moving forward. We also need to not hear a peep out of the locker room for me to feel comfortable with both of them moving forward. That's why it's imperative that we get rid of clowns like Revis, Marshal & Richardson.
It's actually extremely heavy for pass rushers. A lot of talent and potential stars in the class. There will most likely be quality into the 3-4 rounds of this draft. QB and OT I fully agree. Not a good year to start rebuilding the OL through the draft though. Sigh. We really need to fix the trenches if we are to ever be a dominate team in the league.
Disagree. The contracts he handed these bets were for a two year minimum. They were filler players while telling all of us fans this was to be a competitive rebuild. Why are you so surprised? Sure, a lot more misfortune happened then Mac or any of us would have liked but it's not like he inked these guys long term. Literally almost every contract he did was short term for a reason. Pointing out to potentially failed picks doesn't make him a bad drafter either. Your not going to hit them all and if you haven't noticed, this team hasn't hit in the second round since David Harris was selected. He's getting much closer to retirement than anything. That's a long time and to use that as some precursor for Mac deserving to fired is silly to me.
Macc will be on Boomer and Carton at 9:30 this morning, and will later appear on Mike Francesa's show. Time for that still undetermined, will update when I find out.
Not to mention he HAD to spend the money when he first arrived. You can argue he might have spent it better perhaps but that's about it really.
+100 Yes the Team a holes have to go and attitude is very important I'm my book... But how do you account for Mr Bowles in game decisions eg mishandling, time outs. behind by 3 TDs and going for FGs, putting players in wrong position, poor def schemes , no gameday preparation terrible game plan (playing not to lose} So you have to really examine how we came to another losing season in 2017 imo As soon as Bowles starts to think we are in trouble.....(sigh)
AAAHHaaaahahahaa! POTY! Nobody but 12 year olds and under believe the bs they put out, but do you think they realize this? Ron
The part about preparation. Not just game day, but having players prepared to play, including the QB's. How does that other team give away two good players, lose the best player in the league to injury, its QB for four games, and still win? Getting your team to play despite losing people for whatever reason is a basic coaching fundamental in this league, doesn't seem to be present with this staff. Ron
How about all the other GMs & scouting departments that passed him over three times, including Dallas? Might as well fire every FO team in the NFL while we're at it I suppose...
FYI: Brady was a 6th rd pick champ. Some teams get lucky, some don't, some shit the bed when it comes to the draft. All the GM's that passed on Brady weren't stupid, they just didn't see what Belichek saw and even then Belichek waited 6rds before drafting him. Can't blame Macc for missing on Dak. A lot of teams that needed a Qb passed on Dak. The difference is that other teams didn't reach for a 2nd rd. project Qb.
The Cowboys themselves preferred 2 other QBs over Prescott. No one expected him to perform this well. They got lucky. Get over it.
