The Cowboys let Jimmy Johnson go 1-15 and 7-9 in his first two seasons, this following the 7-8 and 3-13 that got him hired in the first place. You can't shortcut a rebuild and changing coaches and GM's in the middle of it just sets you back unless you get very lucky with the perfect candidate available. If Jim Harbaugh becomes available next season after the Jets tank maybe you make that move but you don't fire Mac and Bowles unless the draft fails next year and the team is still a completely dysfunctional mess with no path forward. If the Jets go 1-15 next year but they got the OL together and the draft looks like it's panning out then you keep both of them and take the QB and see if they can put it all together. If they go 1-15 and there's a leadership vacuum and none of the young guys are blooming and there's no QB in the draft to reward the 1-15 then you clean house and bring in the next team. Winning in the NFL takes patience. If Bowles and Mac are setting the stage for the next guy to succeed it makes sense to let them continue on that path. They might well be the next guy themselves but if not at least the Jets won't be rock bottom when you bring him in. If they're contributing to rock bottom with no hope then get them out of the building and let the next guy fix things. I'd treat 2015 and 2016 like they never happened at this point. Competitive rebuild was really unlikely to work. Now we're at year 1 of rebuild.
I tend to agree that Jets fans have to be patient, I also think going 5-11 again will get them canned, unless the whole roster looks like its trying every single game, playing their asses off, and Hackenberg is starting and playing well, unless they somehow manage to get Tyrod Taylor. In any regard, I also need to see a better Macc and Bowles because in 2016 both were incredibly flawed. More so Bowles than Macc, but I need to see improvement. Like I've said before Macc needs to hit on a few draft picks and supplement the roster with free agents that aren't splashes. Instead they should be good players that are going to buy in. Bowles needs to show that he can be a leader of men, able to adjust on the fly, play the players that deserve to play and not blindly throw in players who aren't playing their asses off. He also needs to learn how to be more attentive to the clock in game, call better timeouts, call better challenges, half time adjustments, preparation. Effort, character, identity, these are traits that the Jets needs to develop and maintain in 2017. I don't think anyone can argue the Jets had an identity in 2016 - that has to change in 2017.
Sick and tired of hearing about the Patriots. Belichick is an asshole. I am glad he is not coaching the Jets. Fuck that guy. Just because they have Tom Brady and Brady makes up for everything else doesn't mean they do everything right. Belichick would've been run out of town and his press conferences laughed at had he not gotten lucky with Tom Brady..... not unlike his former butt buddy Mangina. Everyone laughs at him and he did everything like Belichick except stumble across Tom Brady
If the Jets won as often as the Pats, I would never listen to any of the press conferences. I would just enjoy being a fan and watching my team win.
Whats the point of a closed press conference? Might as well call it a group media interview and not mention it...
Who was it who started the thread demanding a press conference a few years back? That was one of my favorite rants - the dude went completely off the rails.
It looks like they're trying to hide from the fans and only answer softball questions. How about answering why Bowles doesn't report to Mac? How about asking why Neil Glat is President, he's a glorified marketing guy. He's not a football FO guy. Answer why if the composition of the FO is so screwed up are we supposed to believe the composition of the CS isn't? Why hasn't he held Bowles accountable?
The Jets will be able to control the messaging. If there's any discrepancies, they can always blame the media for getting it wrong. Now if we all heard the same things the media heard, that's something they can't deny.
Macc presser quotes - We've obviously not happy with our record. But I do think we made some progress (with youth) Our focus has always been to ideally build through the draft and complement through free agency Macc would not comment coming back, ie: Geno, Sheldon Macc "I felt comfortable signing Fitz coming off his good year in 2015" On Revis Macc said "We liked him when we signed him" ----- Good bye Revis!!! "I feel good about our young receivers. Brandon Shell went in there and played well - Juston Burris did some good things" Macc on Hack not starting in week 17 "If you have the ability to take your time and let a playet grow, there is some benefit to that" On filling out the rest of the coaching staff Macc said that it is up to Bowles and although he may meet some of the candidates, Todd is running that show On Brandon Marshall "Still a very good player...I don't think he declined significantly" "To build through the draft, it just takes time" On free agency " We'll potentially be active, like we have been" On Mo Wilkerson "I feel good about the decision to sign Mo to keep him in the organization..We have high expectations for Mo" More on Wilkerson "season was not up to wilkerson's own standards, mentions that he was coming off an injury" "We want to get this thing turned around as fast as we can but we want to do it so it can be consistent and maintained"
That's an easy one, it's called "control." They don't want any new issues or problems arising when today is Day 1 of Job 1, selling seasons tix for next year. Anyone expecting substance is either quite young or just numb. (not a shot at you )
Perhaps that is the case...still think we could get a 6 or 7 for him. He can still be really productive in the right situation and his salary for a good WR is pretty manageable. I would actually like him back had he not went on and on and on about Fitz and was not the source of so much division.
Woody mentioned what he learned from this past season, and that was Mac & Bowles "can handle going down." Bowles always seemed calm while going down. He stuck around and faced the music with his Gump stare...complete opposite of our last demonstrative coach Rex Ryan. Let's hope Mac & Bowles don't suck in year 3.
Mac and Bowles can get this situated, glad they aren't fired. I would give him until their contract expires. They were signed on for 4 years so I have no issues giving them the full 4 yrs. Gotta stay the course, purge the roster of the Revis, Sheldon and Marshall
Decker will be back, and Enunwa and Thompson have to play. Of course we don't know how it will play out in the details, but I expect that's where we'll be come TC.
Yeah I feel like since woody didn't can them this season he just needs to let it ride until l2018 then put the pressure on, because if your trying to build a young team and embrace the rebuild, they are more then Likley gunna suck next year. I think the only way Toliet gets fired after 2017 is if he shows a complete lack of understanding on how to be a head coach and the team looses because of him, similar to this year.
My goodness Woody ostensively giving them both a hugh bathroom pass Of course behind the closed doors he might be ripping both of them..who knows Just a set up for the heir apparent to TB doesn't see the organization like Buffalo ...a turnover machine I wonder what Mac really thinks of sham HC we have
