Last year he threw for 200 yards in the first half and Miami took a huge lead before unveiling the Wildcat in the second half when they were already well ahead. Chad's performance got lost in the highlights of the Wildcat and the huge upset, but if you look up that game you will see it. The 2006 and 07 numbers you posted aren't bad, considering who they were playing against and the fact that New England held the ball for long periods of time. He also played pretty well, better than Brady, in the snow game late in 2007 after Clemens put us in an early hole with a pick-six.
Nice deflection. Other posters said he couldn't beat good teams, it was brought out that he was 3-1 at NE. That's a fact. Chad was a good to very good QB for us, had the potential to be great but injuries derailed that. In 2002 he was great and he led us to a big win at NE in week 16 and a thrashing of the 12-3 packers in Week 17 before dismantling Mr. january Peyton Manning and the Colts- but he's never beaten any good teams Belichick's record w/o Brady is embarrassing. I know he's a better coach now than he was in Cleveland but tom Brady made the pats NOT Bill Belichick.
He did redeem himself quite a bit last season with Cassel, who isn't looking too hot on his own this year. Also to add to the conversation--Favre's win up there wasn't against a Brady team but a Cassel team, although Brady would have been hard pressed to match what Cassel did that night, it might have been a totally different game from the start.
I don't think if Brady plays there's any way we go up 24-7. Belichick did a great job last year but still didn't make the postseason w/ a team that was undefeated in '07 and also had an easier sched in '08. The #s w/ and w/o Brady are startling.
Chad was great in 02 and I'm not one to say he was figured out in Oakland in 02 either. Chad was simply a different QB after his injuries. Smart, contained pretty good but no where near the QB he was in 02 ever including last year. Two things happened to Chad, his arm was never as good and after he took the beating he was never as comfortable turning his back on the D and making those outragious play action fakes that made good defenses look stupid. The idea that he was 3 and 1 in NE when he lost all those home games isn't really an argument. The Jets were 3 and 1 in those games because our D played well and Chad didn't screw up. He never was able to light it up after 02 in NE and he was awful in some of those games at home.
NE has been the best team in the NFL this decade, they were a dynasty. They beat up just about evrey team they played on a consistent basis. Chad came back in 2003 after his wrist injury and lit it up the first 5 games before struggling down the stretch. His career really turned in Buffalo '04 when he originally hurt that shoulder.
They certainly didn't play like a dynasty in 02, they went 9 & 7 had the 21st ranked O and 23rd ranked D. Agree it was the shoulder not the hand that was the issue.
If not for the Jets they would have been 10-6 and won the AFC east where thye easily would have beaten Indy and who kows what happens from there. We interrupted their dynasty, it's b/c of the Jets they missed the playoffs in '02 for the only time w/ Tom Brady.
They would have lost in Oakland. It wasn't snowing and the refs don't hand the game to the away team.
Maybe, we don't know. obviously they matched up better w/ oak than we did. I think they probably wind up beating Oakland but either way they would have gotten there.
Isn't that the year they had Brady throw more passes than in any other season in his career? Coincidence?
