I want Bobby V. This team is going to suck for a little bit, at least make them fun to root for. Also, Josh Byrnes, anybody?
http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/story/14068940/mets-send-manuel-packing-relieve-minaya-as-gm Bye bye Minaya and Manuel. About time!
His contract expired in 2002 and the Mets didn't want to pay him the money to resign him. They are regreting that decision.
This is fantastic and all, but they should have fired this clown a while ago and brought in Jockety. He was there to be had.
Jerry was not a bad manager by any means. I hope he meets success wherever he goes. However, Minaya can eat shit.
Honestly I liked Jerry but I thought he acted way too nonchalantly with a team that seemingly needed a kick in the ass, he was always changing the lineups and making bad ones at that, he always made the wrong bullpen move, etc etc etc.
Its a good thing for Met fans everywhere as up until this point, there really wasn't any good reason to either root for the team OR spend your hard earned money to go see them. At least now, there's hope for that franchise. I do believe however, that to move forward, the core of this team has to be broken up. Yeah, that might mean either Wright or Reyes or BOTH has to go in order to restock the farm system and give hope to 2012 as they're already stating that 2011 will be a lost (rebuilding) season. Beltran, Perez and Castillo should all walk the plank although we already know how well Beltran plays in contract years. Perhaps we hold him until he's peaking, then trade him. Anyway you look at it, this team needs a hot water enema from the front office on down the line.
Everything was good until I heard Jeff Wilpon on WFAN giving the same speech as last year, in his same dullard tone. This guy really got the short end of the gene stick. He didn't feel good about Carlos Beltran until he yelled at Chase Utley? Yeah, I guess being a top five center fielder wasn't enough. He said the Mets will take any new GM's suggestion that they cut Ollie Perez and do it, if it comes down to it. Doubtful. The Mets hate to give away free money. They'd rather make us suffer. I'm willing to be pleasantly surprised, but we'll see when the season ticket renewals come and when camp starts. -X-
I thought Sillie was nearly as awful as Jerry. He undermined the hell out of his players, particularly Pagan and Ruben Gotay(who, according to his AAA numbers, would have been the best second baseman on the Mets last year). I think the Mets need to stop hiring their managers based on Yankee envy or personability. I think Bobby V has to be the guy. He's proven he can do it with a roster of middling talent and that's what the Mets will probably have next year. -X-
I don't think Reyes and Wright are to blame for the Mets problems. Why should we sacrifice two great players who we will not see the likes of again for years for some minor league players that may never work out. We have a good roster who are distracted by some players (Perez, Castillo, Beltran) and bad managing.
We absolutely need to keep Wright and Reyes. Pagan, Davis, Pelfrey, Niese as well. I honestly wouldn't mind trading anyone else on the roster. I'm still torn on what we should do with F-Mart.
There is no best time to do that. That's probably the stupidest move the Mets, as a franchise, could make. For the record, the Mets franchise has developed and retained three above average fielders in their ENTIRE EXISTENCE. Wright, Reyes, and Strawberry. Also, assuming the Mets trade Wright and Reyes is assuming the Mets are capable of making such trades competently. They aren't. Historically, the Mets make some of the worst trades in league history. They have no sense of value and are easily swayed by names. I think their scouting department has little say in the decision making process. -X-
Bobby V at the Helm, Backman at Third? http://blog.silive.com/mets/2010/10/mets_off-season_begins_with_wi.html
Yeah, that's right, sir. Dumb decision to make. As we know I was horribly mistaken about wanting the core to be broken up as evidenced by those 2008 and 2009 World Series banners in Citi Field.
