I have a better grasp about player value and baseball than you do. Seriously. It's insulting to think your somehow above me in your point of view. I'm going to address every position you just mentioned. The problem is...I don't know what you LTS wants to do. You say you want to rebuild but then you criticize me for saying if the team TRULY wants to rebuild they need to trade Beltran and Johan. Because they do. They are the most aging parts of the core. First base- Delgado probably isn't coming back unless it's a one year incentive laden deal. So if the Mets are going for it next year I could see him come back. There really isn't any other options on the free agent market, save for the boy you have a boner for in Adam LaRoche. Otherwise if your rebuilding, Nick Evans should get his shot. Murphy sucks. He's so awful and its funny because Met fans like you wanted to play him in left in the off-season and I got KILLED for saying you guys should've signed Abreu at the bargain price he was obtained for. So there. Second base- A main problem in your rebuilding plan as not only do you have no prospects that are ready to take on the position now, but because Omar is a fucking idiot Luis Castillo goes NOWHERE unless you buy him out. He's seriously one of the most unmoveable players in sports. Whether you like it or not, Castillo unless he retires is coming back. Catcher- Not a lot available. Victor Martinez could be available in trade talks. If your rebuilding then Santos is the starter. If your not then Bengie Molina is a possibility as a free agent. Schneider sucks. Luckily his contract is up after this year. Right field/left field- Uhh I don't know why you bring up right field. The front office clearly has Francouer pegged as the starter. Left field, well pick your pick of free agents if your not rebuilding and your going for it. Nady could come cheap, Dye will be available. And please don't tell me I'm not being realistic in terms of paying some of these guys. The free agent market will be just as cheap as last year in terms of corner outfielders if not cheaper. The 14 million you'd spend on Halladay would be recouped by Delgado, Putz, Wagner and Schneider coming off the books. In a world where Abreu got 5 million last year, I don't think its a stretch to say Jermaine Dye could be had at a 2 year 10 million dollar deal or so. Or that Molina would cost more then 8 million a year on a short term deal. It's very possibly for the Mets to make the Halladay deal with the intent on competing for a weak wild card this year, and going for it next year. If your not giving up Holt, Mejia or Flores you still have a decent minor league system while hoping Ike Davis and other projects make strides in their game. But to deny the team the best top two in the rotation in baseball because of Fernando Martinez and Jon Neise is assenine when the fact is the Mets aren't going to rebuild. Rather they'll stand pat like the losers that they are and be stuck in mediocrity. And by the way...you can't do a total overhaul without trading Beltran and Johan. They're the only marketable guys that can be dealt aside from Reyes and Wright that you could get ANYTHING for on the major league roster. Tell me what sense it makes to keep a 32 year old outfielder and a 30 year old pitcher with declining velocity on your team if your rebuilding. And if your into trading Reyes or Wright...I really don't know what to tell you.
The fact that you think Santos and Francouer should be starters, and that Murphy should be given up on, once again proves all I need to know about your lack of knowledge about this game of baseball.
Sigh...Murphy shouldn't be given up on? Really. You know for someone that I think is rather intelligent when it comes to baseball i don't know what to make of your ideas. What has Murphy shown this year besides a whole lot of nothing. Francouer is the classic change of scenery guy. And I'm not sure he should start but your front office sure as hell thinks he should. So if I'm dumb Omar must be a complete fucking retard...oh wait he is.
Unless Francoeur changes scenery to a place where the baseball emits a blaring loud noise and flashing colors when it's going to wind up out of the strike zone, he's not going to improve. He's hasn't drawn a walk as a Met to this point. Murphy's hit into some tough luck this year, is in his first full season in the majors, has been jerked around in and out of the lineup and back and forth between positions, has had by all accounts a miserable season... and is still doing better than Francoeur. If he can't become an adequate defender at a position aside from first, he'll may never be a full time player, but he's still got a good swing and a good plate approach. And for the record, Minaya is a pretty big retard.
I don't buy it. Manuel is NOT the type of manager this team needs. If he was any good, he'd get the healthy players to play better. He hasn't done his job. He's got talent to work with and he doesn't know how to motivate this team. Very inconsistant. Loosing to teams that with our 3rd stringers we should beat. Manuel and Minaya should be given walking papers. IMO.
