Getting Murphy back is pretty much like trading for Zobrist. So I dont see him making that much of an impact if we were to land him. At this point I wouldnt want to give up any notable piece for him either.
I think you have to make an effort to improve the team. They can easily find a place for Zobrist or some other real big league hitter to play. Yeah, they won today because they threw a shutout. They need more offense and if Sandy ignores it he's blowing off 2015. Nice if they bring up Matz and trade Niese. How's about a big deal like this with the Brewers: Grandy and Niese for Braun.
Personally Id rather see what we have in Herrera. Unless Zobrist is coming in to be our full time SS and were moving Flores to 2nd and putting Tejada back on the bench. Not likely considering the hard on this team has for Tejada's bat being in the lineup everyday. Braun is the type of bat we need but its going to take a hell of a lot more than Grandy and Niese to get him. Might have to start with Matz or Syndergaard and throw in another young bat and another nearly ready player. Teams with those players know how desperate teams that dont have em are. Figures that the one time in history the Mets have great young pitching the rest of the league is flooded with it as well.
Oh I got a ladyboner. Just heard the Steven Matz is pitching on Sunday. Maybe trying to trade Niese for a bat isn't to far away? Degrom has been our best pitcher. He's been awesome.
I want Herrera in AAA. IMO this isn't the minors and the Mets are still at .500 and if things can be turned around (they did win 11 straight earlier this year) they could get back into it. Do I think so, NO. But I don't agree with giving up and trying out rookies at key positions. You do that in Sept. Herrera is overmatched. If I am running the Mets I get rid of all of the minor league bats and get a few real hitters. And it doesn't have to cost you key prospects. Something Sandy should have done 6 months ago. As for trading Grandy for Braun. I know it won't happen. But he had a good series in a hot and cold season with the Mets. If we could get rid of him and his 15 mil contract. The Mets would have to take on Braun's even more expensive deal but he's a better player. It would depend on just how badly the Brewers want to get rid of Ryan.
Actually his stats are down after a great year in 2012. He's hitting only .250 not that much higher than Grandy. He's got 14 Hrs to Grandy's 11 but over 20 Rbis more. I just thought they hated him too in Milw. and maybe wanted to get rid of him. Don't worry Sandy doesn't make blockbuster deals like that. So far the only bat he's acquired this year is reacquiring Kurt Nieuhenweis. He loves to send him down to Vegas.
Granderson is on fire right now which begs the question should he be hitting down in the lineup? One could argue it wouldn't matter because guys aren't getting on base anyway.
Here's an article in today's Newsday. http://www.newsday.com/sports/colum...-make-big-move-to-save-mets-season-1.10585400 I don't really think he's going to do anything.
Sandy gave a Presser yesterday, I happened to catch it live on SNY. He laughed off spending by saying that he would overpay for someone if there was someone worth spending on. He said there's no market right now for players because teams are still hoping to remain in the hunt. IF he does something it will most likely towards the trade deadline, not any time soon. He talked about Murph coming back, and at some point Wright. They desperately need Murph back. I'm concerned about the pitchers having to be perfect, and the 'duress' it puts on the young guys....and you know Sandy is too. The Coupons, or somefucknbody, has to fork up some dough to get some relief, offense, for the pitchers. He went to the 6-man rotation to save the pitchers..... so maybe he won't do something afterall...who knows
Lol, he may be. He's getting paid good money by the Coupons to cover their asses....and he's done that before. But he said there's only a few teams out of it right now, and they don't necessarily have a good fit for us.. He's not gonna make a move for the sake of making a move, and I don't blame him for that....we saw that already with the other rumors created by the media.
Why is saying he'll overpay. You don't tell your opponents that unless you have no intention of doing it.
When he laughed it off and said that, I thought he was bluffing the media. I didn't believe him either. But that doesn't make him a bad person Whatever he does, or whatever happens, he's not gonna let the media dictate to him...I like that.
I didn't say he's a bad person. Just a bad GM. Can't win too many games on two hits. I assume it'll get better but not much better. I don't understand this guy.
The whole idea of being a GM is to fix holes in the team. But you have to give up something to get something. Some teams need pitching and he has Niese who is expendable. Doing nothing is a losing proposition.
Doing something, anything, for the sake of doing it, is not necessarily a winning proposition either. Patience is a virtue. Who exactly is he gonna get for Niese right now. As opposed to a month from now when a team may actually need him badly. Lotta things change week to week. He addressed that yesterday also.
