Ed Kranepool has passed away at the age of 79. https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/ed-kranepool-obituary-g3dbbqds He, like Ron Swoboda, didn't turn out to be the star many thought he would be, but he played the most games of any player for the franchise by far between 1962 and 1979. He was an above average player, both offensively and defensively, for a nice stretch from 1971 through 1977 (.284/.340/.407 with a 112 OPS+), especially from 1974-1977, when he was also an excellent pinch-hitter. Cleon Jones is now the only guy left who signed his first professional contract with the Mets in 1962. RIP.
Mets back alone in the third wild card spot, a game behind Arizona and a game-and-a-half behind San Diego.
Wow, what a turnaround - home run by Lindor, infield hit, three walks, two sac flies, and a three-run home run by Francisco Alvarez and the Mets are suddenly up by 5 runs.
That was insane! This team definitely has its streaky moments. That was a crucial win. Keep it rolling!
Kumar Rocker Pitching today for the Rangers. I really thought it was worth the risk for us. deGrom is pitching tomorrow.
Nola goes 4 hitless innings, then single, single, HR, K, single, single, HR (Nimmo this time), and it's 6-0, and Nola is out.
In their last two games, corresponding to 14 innings, the Mets have 0 hits in 12 of the innings. In the other two, they have 12 runs on 11 hits.
I wouldn't be surprised if that HBP fractured Marte's arm. This game feels like an April-May Mets game, not a June-July-August-September one, and that's a very bad thing.
