Major League Baseball is investigating former Mets general manager Billy Eppler for improperly using the injured list, sources confirm to ESPN. The investigation remains open amid Eppler's resignation as Mets GM today. The @nypost first reported the league looking into Eppler. I feel like all teams in the league are guilty of doing things like this? There’s what 30 teams. Couldn’t they all be investigated for that? Not much details so I guess we wait but it’s alway something.
Do y'all think it was Buck? He wouldn't do this right? I mean there are rumors he still wants to coach but if it were to come out this was him who would want him as a manager? From @martinonyc on the Billy Eppler MLB investigation: "The probe began as the result of a tip by a source who remains anonymous, leaving many in the industry to wonder who dropped the dime on Eppler. That parlor game will go on for quite a while."
Our old friend Trevor May has retired after a season with the A's, and on his way out he completely eviscerated their owner. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/38676133/trevor-rips-athletics-owner-announcing-retirement
At least we know that even if the Mets had made the playoffs this year, he still would have screwed it up again anyway.
Tommy talking about the Mets lack of effort again. Tommy Pham compares the Diamondbacks to the Mets ahead of the World Series: "[The Mets are] more talented than [the Diamondbacks.] Let's be honest here. What makes this team different, everyone is still trying to reach their max potential. That drive wasn’t there. And that drive is here. It’s what separates this team from most teams. You have guys that are still trying to get better. Every day. I do feel like there’s a level of expectations and preparation and work ethic going into the game, and I was very honest - I just didn’t feel like it was being met as a whole. I didn’t call anyone out. If anyone disagrees with me over there, man, you gotta take a long look in the mirror and be honest. Be a very honest self-evaluator.” Sometimes on paper it just doesn’t get put together like you envision it...but I don’t see that team struggling for long. There’s guys over there that are hungry. You have an owner that cares about winning.”
The New York Mets are hiring Carlos Mendoza as their new manager, sources tell ESPN. Mendoza, 43, has served as the New York Yankees' bench coach for the last four seasons and has been a coach in the organization for the last 15 years.
He’s been in the Yankees organization. I’m assuming they picked him cause he will play ball with analytics and do what they tell him?
For this price they can keep him. Craig Counsell's 5-year contract with the Cubs is worth more than $40 million, per @Ken_Rosenthal Counsell will be the highest-paid MLB manager.
More starting pitching problems already for the Mets: David Peterson had surgery to repair the labrum in left hip, and is expected to be out until next June.
Hey, there's a "strong possibility" that he's signing with the Mets! https://www.mlb.com/news/psychic-predicts-where-shohei-ohtani-signs
