Some people hate this, but as a fan it's something I like to do. So.. I looked ahead at the remaining schedules and it seems that the weekend of September 16 is going to be the one that really determines how or where we fall into place for the WC. The Giants and Cardinals both play each other that weekend while we get the Twins. Take care of business during that series and we can be in pretty good shape come the final week or so of the season. And to think I threw the towel in a few weeks ago.. Meh.
Hate this half-game stuff. The Mets are tied with the Cards in the loss column , one game behind the Giants. They will be in the Wildcard game. Probably host it, probably win it. Never doubted them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nice win if we pull it off, I had us dead and done when we went down 4-0. Granderson playing ball makes a huge difference.
Great W last night. We absolutely need to take care of business these next two days. Can't lose to a lifeless Atlanta team
Mets and Cards both lose. Cubs' Hendricks took a no-hitter into the bottom of the ninth against St. Louis, but gave up a home run to the first batter.
What a completely disastrous ninth inning. Obviously not all Familia's fault (Reyes is certainly not a great third baseman), but he has to be having the worst year in history of anyone who is probably going to get 50 saves - every game he almost invariably gives up a baserunner.
TJ Rivera with his third hit, third RBI, and first major league HR to give the Mets the lead in the top of the 10th! Nice job for the Bronx boy.
Amazingly Daniel Murphy strikes out for the last out in the bottom of the tenth as Blevins gets the save in relief of Salas.
Blew a golden opportunity today with Giants and Cards both losing. Jay Bruce has been atrocious since we got him.
Truly amazing how bad Bruce has been, given the season he was having in Cincinnati. It's like a switch just turned off when he got on the plane to New York. This could be a very good weekend for the Mets. With the Giants and Cards playing a four-game series, all the Mets have to do is take care of business against the worst team in baseball and they're guaranteed to have some breathing space Sunday night. Even if they only take 2 out of 3 they're guaranteed to have at least a one-game lead, and with a sweep it's at least two games up.
Mets take care of business, despite Familia once again thinking that a 1-2-3 inning is somehow against the law. Colon continues to have an amazing season. Root for San Francisco to open up a two-game lead for the Mets tonight.
Up by 2 on StL. Down 1 to SF. Assuming we win, what do you want to happen for next two games in that Series? I think I just want the Giants to sweep StL so we can (hopefully) get to 4 games then watch as the Dodgers put the nail in coffin vs the Giants for 6 games.
The best result obviously depends on what the Mets do, so the first thing you have to say is to assume the Mets continue to play reasonably well. Given that, we clearly want the Giants to sweep. The way to think of it is to focus on what matters most, and that is of course making the playoffs. The best thing for the Mets to guarantee them to get into the playoffs is for the teams behind them to keep losing. Once it is reasonably assured that they're in the playoffs getting the home game matters most, and at that point you focus on the team ahead of you. So we want the Mets and Giants to sweep, putting the Mets up 4 games with 13 games to go. At that point their probability of getting into the playoffs will be high enough (over 90%?) that we can focus on the Dodgers, Padres, and Rockies doing some damage against the Giants. Of course, none of this is assured - anyone who remembers 2007 and 2008 knows that the Mets are eminently capable of blowing a seemingly insurmountable lead.
