Its incredible how this team can't get over the hump.

There was no doubt we'd be back to .500 within a week after going 4 over. Didn't think it would only take 4 days, though.

Izzy is not a closer anymore...more a set up guy than a closer.

Give it to Parnell and see if he can learn on the job

The Mets curse continues. Reyes leaves the game due to stiffness in his hamstring and will be getting an MRI, and Murphy plays second base for only the second time in 3 months and on his first play a horrible slide takes him out with what looks like a knee injury.

Whoever gives Jose Reyes a huge contract this offseason will regret it almost immediately. The guy just can't stay healthy, and his numbers this season are clearly the exception and not the norm for him.

    Agreed.

This is a contract year for him and I don't expect him to ever again put up these numbers over an extended period of time.

Most teams are not smart enough to understand that, but I think everyone can see that you can't give a huge long term deal to a guy who gets injured several times a season.

2003 (Rookie year): missed a bunch of games after coming up on June 10. Played in only 69 games.
    2004: 53 games
2005-2008: somehow stayed healthy enough to go 150+ each season.
    2009: 36 games
    2010: 133 games
2011: already missed 15 games and will miss a bunch more.

He's missed significant time in 5 out of 9 major league seasons.

Man, the lineup without Reyes, Beltran, and Murphy is going to really suck.

Heath Bell is a piece of shit and he deserves to have moldy fruit thrown at him by Mets fans. Also, The Duda abides.

Another nice comeback win. It's too bad half of the team's best players have ended up missing all or part of the season - it might have ended up being a more interesting one than we ever would have expected.

Edit: it's funny - I suddenly realized that I pretty obviously understated things. You could easily argue that almost all of their best players have missed, or will miss, games: 5 due to injury (Santana, Reyes, Wright, Davis, Murphy) and 2 due to trade (Beltran, Rodriguez). Considering that, being 1 game over .500 in August is pretty remarkable.

I think to be where the Mets are financially now and also looking at the farm system and some of the arms we have the change in 12 months is phenomenal. Alderson and his staff with hopefully some leeway in the offseason can add 1 X Starter and some Bullpen depth.

I know this season is pretty much done, but the way Collins has these guys playing is fantastic. The fact that I'm still listening to the games in my car and watching on tv when I get home from work tells me a lot. They're an easy bunch to root for.

I said it a few weeks ago Guinness but the fanbase are energized again, we have young players contributing and IF we can keep reyes and 1 or 2 of the ams come through we are not far away from a Wild Card next year inmy opinion

Back from the game. It was an absolutely perfect day for baseball, I had great seats out of the sun behind home plate, and Jonathan Niese certainly held up his end of the bargain. Three hits and two errors for the Mets isn't going to do it, however.

I thought Niese pitched beautifully , needs to throw that curve more!!!

Evans is painful to watch , he is nowhere close to a major leaguer..they keep bringhing him up but he gets worse.... I would rather they gave a late season look to someone like Lutz or Satin who are impressing in their early days in AAA.

Nice to see Harvey is getting some praise and is now viewed as one of the top pitching prospects , he will be in AAA next season....lets keep our fingers crossed he keeps progressing

The oldtimers like Stat will remember how electric the city was and how it gets when the Mets are in the race.
