Wheeler projects to be a no 2 sp in all reports I read if thats corect then alderson deserves a medal. As I said 2 weeks ago someone would get itchy and we would get a top prospect.
Loss in velocity, control issues and high hits and walks. I'd probly say more a 3/4 guy, but good return for beltran.
Wheelers velocity is still up around 91-94 but its his curveball and change up that will make or break him. His curve is excellent according to all reports. If we get another prospect on top of this its a good deal.
There are people in the baseball forum today?! Wow. Anyway, I think that Wheeler is a great prospect to get back in return for a two month rental. Curve ball isn't necessarily plus, but it doesn't need to be - he can switch between a slurvey curve and a slider at will, which makes it effective. Gets a good amount of ground balls. Terrible control, but that can be worked on. Easily a top fifty prospect - will shoot to the top of any prospect rankings within the Mets organization. It'll be interesting/depressing to see what Terry Collins does with the lineup from here on out. Willie Harris batting second today.
I watched most of tonight's game. Also, Mike Pelfrey pitched a complete game. I don't know which one of those things is more surprising.

He has 98 Ks in 88 innings and 74 hits and 47 walks in the same span. His ERA is a tic under 4 and has only allowed 7 HR. For a guy just drafted 2 years ago, that's not bad at all. I'll miss Beltran. He's unfairly judged because of one pitch, but he was a great Met and I'll remember the better times. Overall, this was a good trade. The type of prospect we kept hearing we wouldn't get. So, well done Alderson. Edit: this is from an article linked from the NJ Star-Ledger....Wheeler has pitched in High-A ball this year, in the California League, which is notoriously hitter-friendly (like, really hitter-friendly), and has put up a 3.99 ERA and 1.375 WHIP -- uninspiring numbers, but again, the Cal League is known for its hitter-friendly environs. Wheeler's team, the San Jose Giants, leads the league a 3.51 team ERA; the next-best team is at 4.26, and literally half the teams in the league have an ERA over 5. For his part, Wheeler has allowed only 74 hits in 88 innings, giving him a very fine .222 batting average against.
I'm not saying Wheeler isn't good, but I don't think he has 2 spot stuff. It's still a better trade for NYM than I thought they'd get, but I've got to trust Sabean. The man does not trade arms if he thinks they have value left to him. Out of all the trades he has made in his tenure, 1 pitcher has panned out, Joe Nathan. And that was in a spot the Giants had no room for him in(Robb Nen was closing at the time).
I think the need here was great for SF. The Posey injury forcing their hand if they wanted to compete this year. They may have concerns about Wheeler but even if he is downgraded from Top fifty he will still be top 100 and more than anyone else was offering to the Mets.
Giants hand should have been forced in the off-season... Like I said earlier, I'd have gladly parted with better parts for BJ Upton from Tampa. Team control another year, better defence, base stealing, less power but just as good avg.
Which BJ Upton is this? The one that's currently hitting .227, with a career .256 BA, and the one that hasn't hit over .250 since 2008? Teams are going to overvalue Upton because he's already hit 15 HRs this year, but his doubles are way down and his slugging is actually worse than what it was last year.
