I'm grasping at straws, but since Lo Duca was in the report, perhaps the Mets wanted a catcher as soon as possible (thus the Milledge trade), and they knew they were letting Estrada go. It would give me more confidence in Omar if this were the case.

This crossed my mind for about half a second before I remembered that the Mets gave a 2 year deal to a guy that was going to be serving a 50 game steroid suspension last offseason. There's no defending the crap these guys do.

The Mets non-tendered Johnny Estrada, Ben Johnson, and Juan Padilla today.

Ahh Ben Johnson the guy we got from San Diego after giving up Heath Bell and Royce Ring. I got sick watching Bell pitch for the Padres.

Jeez, can Omar make just one deal before they ask for a 20% ticket hike? We should be major players in the FA market. I was shocked at how idle we were last year. Looks like the same deal, huh?

Who do you want them to go after? I'd rather them be picky than overpay for the immortal Carlos Silva.

Whether it's free agency or trade, I'd like to see Omar do something that we amateurs wouldn't necessarily think of - that's what he's getting paid for. I predict that if this is the team the Mets will be putting on the field in 2008 Omar will not be GM when Citi Field opens, because they will not make the postseason again and he'll deservedly get fired.

I am utterly disgusted with Omar. I was thrilled after his first season here getting Beltran and Pedro, even Wagner was a big get. I thought this could be the GM that makes annual playoff contenders. It has all turned to shit. The entire team got cocky and gave up last year, there was no heart, YET the only players they got rid of were LaDuca and Milledge. The pitching is SOARLY lacking and we got worse with Glavine leaving (yes I know he sucked the last few months, but he is still a HOF pitcher). The bullpen is a disaster again...Ugh...Next year is going to suck...Maybe Omar will be shown the door after another let down of a season.

I am not normally so doom and gloom, but Omar is pissing me off. ESPECIALLY after saying in an interview he is happy with the team the way it is. Really???

    Mets Sign Matt Wise:

    metsblog, obviously.

Good signing IMO, adds another arm to the pen. More flexibility if they need to trade Heilman.

the good news: signing matt wise isn't a completely horrible acquistion

the bad news: signing matt wise is the highlight of the mets offseason so far

Yep, pretty much. But it's not even Christmas. The Yanks got A-Rod around Valentine's day. so plenty of time.

    Tough offseason for you guys:sad:

I don't hate the Mets in the least, and I would really like to see a NYM vs. NYY matchup in the World Series.

I would be very surprised if the Mets didn't acquire a major name in the next month or so

Well if Seattle can give him $48M why couldn't we? All the trades we've seen lately are really salary dumps. Cashen needs to open up the wallet. I really thought with the arrival of SNY we'd be competitive in the off seasons. Last year was a shock.

Well, Frank Cashen retired about 20 years ago, so he is not opening up any wallet. So, who do you think should open up for the Mets this year? Tom Seaver or Jerry Koosman?

Har har. I meant Wilpon obviously. There's only one team that should be outbidding us for FA's or salary dump trades. Unfortunately that's not the case. Seaver would own Italy if he pitched in today's market. We're too stingy to have kept him around Queens though.
