FWIW: It will be angled on the jerseys. The jersey in that photo is from an ebay seller who bought obtained a patch individually and had it attached on his own. This coming from a sports uniform board I read.
Fair enough. I still don't see why they wouldn't use the much more attractive one that includes the rotunda shot, but I also don't care (not that anyone else should care about that, either).
I think it's pretty clear why they used such an ugly logo. To encourage people to come to the stadium and buy jerseys with the good looking one there. This is just an attempt to get more people to spend their money at the stadium.
That would explain why they're only using the nicer one on merchandise at the stadium, but not why the players would be wearing it (assuming they are, of course). I also think that anyone who would buy tickets solely for the purpose of getting a nicer patch deserve whatever they get, since they're idiots.
Not really. Just amusingly bemusing. Sorry, but I don't really care about Yankees/Mets pissing matches. What I found curious and difficult to understand was why someone would refuse to believe something well after the fact it was shown to be true, but also claim it's "not a big deal." That's all. It could've been the Pirates, for all I care. It would've been just as strange to me.
Who are you kidding? That's all you're about in this thread. We all read your first post in the thread. Look, some Pirates fan's life was so boring he had to create a thread about a patch. Of course, in his life patches are big. It's a topic that is near and dear to his seafaring heart. That's okay, I suppose. I saw the title of the thread and the name of the thread starter and figured I'd see some moronic comments. I then commented that I don't believe the patch will actually be worn by the Mets in 2009. Somehow that upset you.
Yes, it exists. But is there proof it will be on the actual Mets uniforms in 2009? This would be opposed to the shit teams sell on their websites and at the stadiums. Are you aware of the fact that the Yankees sell jerseys with players names on the back?
I think you're the only one interpreting it like that. Cappy's one of the more objective baseball posters here. It's an ugly patch and he said as much, quit whining.
Yeah, but those aren't the authentic jerseys, they're fashion jerseys. http://shop.mlb.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=709992&cp=1452360.1452525 That's the page for the Yankees authentic jerseys. No option for names on the back. Also note the inclusion of their brand new stadium patch, which has been revealed to the same degree as the CitiField patch. Hey, speaking of, let's look at the Mets authentic jerseys. http://shop.mlb.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=706416&cp=1452359.1452830 Look! It's that darned patch again! Go figure, huh! http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q285/metsfan808/My Jerseys/Rodriguez5.jpg That's an authentic new Rodriguez jersey, with the patch displayed at the proper angle. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/15/sports/baseball/15patch.html?_r=1&ref=sports There's a New York Times article which mentions it being "official." http://ve3dmedia.ign.com/images/04/25/42553_CGill_PS3CAP020_normal.jpg Here's a screenshot from MLB 09: The Show with the patch in full view. Do you need any more proof?
For now? No. Let's see what happens in April. This doesn't change a thing. I still find this unbelievable. It makes zero sense to put such a mindless and boring patch on a professional team uniform.
Yeah, but there's a difference between whether the Mets did something stupid (they did), and whether that makes me feel somehow better as a Yankee fan (it doesn't). If it were the Yankees sporting a ridiculous patch, I'd call it ridiculous and move on. Because, you were correct, it really isn't a big deal. I didn't/don't care about it beyond the fact that it is amazing someone got paid to "design" that thing. I wish I could get paid for doing such an obviously half-assed job, regardless of what team I was working for. It happens to be for the Mets? Okay. So what? Doesn't matter to me at all. I'm a Yankee fan who lives in Boston. My interaction with anything Mets is pretty much limited to what I see on television or stumble across online (and that's not very much). It didn't upset me in the least. Must you exaggerate? Your claims amused/confused me a bit, given what was a seemingly obvious case of denial... but upset me? Hardly. And let's be clear about one thing... you didn't just say that you "don't believe the patch will actually be worn by the Mets in 2009." You said you couldn't believe that others thought it was real. It seems fairly obviously real. This doesn't seem to be a hoax or a prank or urban legend. I don't see why you'd argue so strenuously against the seemingly obvious for something that's not a big deal. And here is where you see the source of my confusion/amusement. *shrugs*
I concluded my first post of the thread with the following, "It can't be real. If this patch idea was released by the Mets, they're just fuckin' with people." The thread was started by a Pirates or Yankees fan (comments made by him would indicate he's a Yankees fan) and was meant to be comical and/or to annoy. When I see these types of threads in the baseball forum, often times I will add to the nonsense. I could see the patch on the unis in April and would say, "I cannot believe what I'm looking at. The Mets actually went through with it." I expect most Mets fan to react in a similar manner. Hence, why I wrote I couldn't believe people thought it was real. It's too comical to believe even after one sees it written about in the NYT and sees a still from a video game, etc. In the future, if you see comments from me in moronic baseball threads, don't be too alarmed by what I write. I'm probably just fuckin' with people. I don't know how much that will be, though. I anticipate participating in fewer baseball threads in 2009 than I had in past years.
That's what I find amazing, we are in an endless circle of talk about how bad the economy yet the Mets somehow paid somebody to take 23 seconds to design that monstrosity. What makes matters worse is that same person probably made more in that 23 seconds than most of us make in one year. It just baffles the mind.
New to baseball threads are you? I stopped posting in a serious manner in this forum a couple years ago after the Mets-Yankees fights got out of control. Baseball threads were much better from 2003 through 2006. The Yankees-Tigers playoff thread was when I had enough. I couldn't make a comment in that thread without two posters going nuts. (I won't mention their names so as not to cause them flashbacks.)
According to the Times article, they didn't pay anybody to design it - it was designed by Citigroup (so actually, you could technically say that someone paid the Mets to design it).
