We all know that here, but are other people around the country going to know it? Twenty years from now, with one of the 2009 Mets game worn jerseys displayed at the Baseball Hall of Fame for some reason, do you want people asking, "'Inaugural Season 2009'- what the heck? I thought the Mets inaugural season was 1962." I can read blogs all day, but until I see something on the Mets website and/or see them take the field in April with that asinine patch I will not believe it. The Mets, like basically all the other MLB teams, never had a patch problem. That they'd suddenly have one now is mind blowing. Hell, I have a keychain that the Mets gave out for free that has a design of Citi Field. They'd put something like that on the patch. That thing in this thread is just some generic thing they found in some high school art room.
The Mets are selling jerseys on ther team shop w/ the patches on them so unless they have a quick change thanks to the backlash those are the patches being worn.
Wow I will definately not be spending any money on a jersey that has that albatross on it. The person who took the 25 seconds to design should be drawn and quartered. The fact that the Mets will actually wear that is just another embarressing moment in the history of this franchise. The fact that Santana likely won't be playing in the WBC means I won't be getting a WBC jersey either.
Yeah, this is some serious denial, all right. The Mets shop has the patch up, as someone else noted. Does that change your mind? The Yankees have a patch for sale on their site, too. (By the way, it also says "Inaugural Season" on it. Fortunately, it seems pretty clear that they're talking about the Stadium.
Who cares what it is? We're talking about a patch. It's not that big a deal. The Mets shop bit does not mean anything to me. At Shea Stadium, the Mets sold numerous styles of New Era caps which are not worn on the field. The Yankees sell jerseys with players' names on the back of them. Does this mean the Yankees will wear jerseys with names on them in 2009?
Yankees patch is much nicer. Seriously, I could've made a better patch than the Mets one just using Microsoft Paint.
I'm not sure why everyone is so mystified by the patch. This is the official logo of Citi Field: Obviously the patch is just the same logo, and that's why it has been shown in various places tilted, even though it obviously won't be tilted on the uniform (as the picture of the uniform showed). I think it's too bad that they didn't use the rotunda as a symbol, but ultimately, I really couldn't care less. They had goofy orange and blue stripes down their arms and legs in 1986, and still managed to have one of the best seasons in MLB history. For anyone to think that this actually matters in any real sense strikes me as pretty funny.
it's just embarrassing that they have an ugly patch on the uniforms. It doesn't "really" matter, but it sure matters if you're considering buying something and it has an eyesore on it. It also matters if you're watching the team. You don't root based on how nice the uniforms are, but it would be nice if they weren't ugly.
Since there's nothing else new about them (as far as I know), I guess I assumed people already had a jersey if they wanted it. I guess I don't view them so much as ugly, but rather plain and boring. Oh well.
The logo at the link below is the one they are using on Stadium sold merchandise. It is a million times nicer than the one that will be on the jerseys. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3257/3174470956_e547c97ba0_o.png
That is exactly what I was thinking of (the nice use of the rotunda) - I certainly hope that that is the one the players will actually be wearing.
All they would have to do is remove Citi from the patcha nd they have a great patch. Hopefully it's not too late to change.
Exactly. It's not a big deal at all. So why not just admit that, yes, the Mets actually approved an ugly patch and move on?
I see this is a problem for you. So that you can sleep better at night, I present the following sentence- It is possible that the Mets approved of the ugliest patch in MLB history because they are a Mickey Mouse organization run by clowns who wouldn't even be able to get jobs as men's room attendants at Yankee Stadium.
