Glavine gets through 7 despite the tough break on the infield hit.

    Talent - 97%

    Cheating - 3%

    I'll give it to him.

So because he's talented it's ok that he cheats? By the way, I'd put the cheating at alot higher percentage, 25 HR's more then your career high in your late 30's is a bit more then 3%.

Well, we need to view things in black and white. We can assume no one cheated and that's clearly wrong. We can assume everyone cheated - that's probably wrong too. So where does Barry fit in? We can't wipe his stats clean. What are you gonna do? I'll hand it to the guy - most of hitting home runs is waiting on the fastball and hitting the sweet spot at the right time. Sure, steroids helped. But there's really only one solution here. You just gotta give Bonds his due, begrudgingly or not.

Back to the game, Wright wants another at bat. Let's hope he gets up.

I have to agree with this. This is a guy who magically raised his slugging percentage by 150 to 200 points at the age of 35. If you believe that he did it using drugs (which I, for one, do), that translates to something like 100 extra home runs that he didn't deserve (and that is presuming he would have played this long). The ridiculous thing, of course, is that without those HRs he would have been an easy first ballot HoFer anyway, but because of his own overwhelming ego and jealousy, instead he will be remembered forever as a cheater.

And that's number 294 for Glavine. One nice thing when he's pitching well on the West coast is that the games end pretty early!

How's this for black and white. Prior to 2001 Bond's had hit 494 HR's in 7356 career ABs. That works out to just about a HR every 15 ABs. From 2001 on Bonds has hit a HR every 8 ABs. That is HUGE. So no, I don't have to give him his due.

Even if you're being generous and assume that Bonds would've continued to hit HRs at that 15 AB pace and played this long he'd be sitting at 635 career HRs, which is 110 less then he has now.

Is there even a discussion on Bonds? The guy is the biggest scumbag in sports, he cheated on his wife, his taxes and in baseball. I hate how he blames the media but yet had no problem doing a reality show.

Based on principle I would love to see the writers keep him out of the HOF. He could have been the greatest player of his era and like said earlier he'll be remembered as a cheat and I will be glad to watch somebody break his record in a few years because it's gonna happen. Even if it's A Rod I'll cheer when Bonds is reduced to 2nd best something he as spent the last 5 years cheating to not be.

    3%!? Hell no.

Same here. If it's A-Rod, I'll be cheering him on wildly. Anything to get that scum off the top of the all-time HR list.

When will the media burn Clemens to the stake? He had a similar huge unheard of jump in productivity at a very late age. He is just as big of a scumbag as Bonds. Baseball used steroids to restore its fame from the strike, I just feel that they just make Bonds the scapegoat when there is plenty of blame to go around.

side note, Green should NOT have went along with the head shaving

    1) he looks riduculous

    2) when you're batting .350+ you dont change anything!!...what was that his first 0-4 this season....got a bad feeling about where he's going now!

Well, he switched leagues. And while he had a nice year with the Astros in 05 it was hardly on the level of what Bonds did on 01. There's plenty of people you could speculate about being on steroids but without proof what's the point? MLB and everyone else knows that Bonds cheated to get here and they're acting like there's nothing wrong with him being about to break baseballs "biggest" record.

In 2005, Roger Clemens was bringing up comparisons to Bob Gibson in this steroid era in his 40s and this happened the 2nd year he was in the NL, and where is the burning stakes for Sheffield and Giambi? You can burn Bonds all you want, but Baseball knew this and is only using Bonds as a scapegoat to hid their numerous incompetent acts.

I guess we're seeing things differently. Baseball doesn't want to burn anybody at the stake, they just want everybody to forget about this stuff. None of these guys were ever punished and now they're acting like everything is OK with Bonds breaking the HR record. This is why anytime people bring up the "integrity of the game" nonsense I get so annoyed. Baseball knew all these guys were cheating and it wasn't in their interest to catch them because it was lining their pockets.
