The Daily News is reporting that Perez is going to stay with the team and work out of the bullpen. Manuel really seems determined to be fired by the fourth of July. What a moron, unless he's being forced to do this by Minaya. Then they're both morons.
I vote that they're both morons either way. I don't see a single rational explanation for putting him in the pen.
The plot thickens. Now there's a story on the Mets web site that says that Perez's knee is bothering him, and he might go on the DL. He also hedged about whether he would be willing to go down to the minors. Hopefully, Perez just plays along with it. I'd hope that he and Boras realize a DL trip is for his own good.
