If that reported Peavy deal is actually a possibility the Mets need to start doing their homework on him. I can't believe that the Padres would be looking to deal him unless there was some sort of problem.
Do you have that clip of him pitching against AMERICAN batters? Isn't Benny Agbayani considered a star over there? Give me a break WBC does not = MLB. Zito might be soft, but he wins games in a league where's facing an additional batter every night. I would feel more comfortable with Zito sitting on top of our rotation than any Met currently on the roster, Mulder, Peavy, Schmidt, Etc. Etc. If the Mets had any balls at all, they'd also be sending out feelers for Petite and Clemens too.
I could careless about who is batting all I care about is his stuff, and it blows Zito's away, and if you are worried about money, because he is the biggest japanese pitcher right now we'll make that money back easily, just from the japanese market
Money is the last thing I'm worried ABOUT as a Mets fan. I just think spending $25 million to sign a player or two, as opposed to paying $25 million just to be able to start talking about signing one unproven-in-America player, is a bigger scam than telemarketing. $25 million to talk with the guy?! F him. Even Scott Boras thinks that's a lot of money "to talk". And there's no guarantee that if you earn the negotiating rights, you're going to get him anyway. So in essence, it's the world's most expensive conversation. It's not a contract.
The posting fee is paid on the signing of a contract; if the team doesn't sign him, they don't pay the posting fee.
09:36 AM - News: Reyes Hits Walk-off HR for MLB All-Stars ...posted by Matthew Cerrone... Mets SS Jose Reyes hit a walkoff, two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning last night to give his MLB All-Stars a 5-3 win over Japan and a sweep of the five-game series. …from what i can gather, the japanese crowd began singing the jose-jose-jose song following the home run, which is awesome…
09:11 AM - Buzz: Mets Contact 2B Kennedy ...posted by Matthew Cerrone... In Newsday, Jim Baumbach points out that the Mets have contacted free-agent 2B Adam Kennedy. …i suspect Willie Randolph must like kennedy, since the 30–year-old second baseman has played in a ton of post-season games and while he may not be the greatest defensive second baseman in the league, he plays hard and makes the necessary and smart play almost all of the time…the buzz from anaheim suggests kennedy is open to playing for the mets…he is said to be seeking at least $3 million per season…
i know lugo struggled with LA but he's a better player then kennedy, wants to play for the Mets and is hispanic it's the trifecta.
He stated he'd prefer to play SS, than 2B though. He's looking for a 4 year/$40 million dollar deal similar to Renteria's, from what I've read.
As per my father working down at the construction of the new stadium: a sign just went up with the name: "CitiField: Opening, 2009" He said there's supposed to be a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday.
Scene, Newday just picked up your scoop. http://www.newsday.com/sports/ny-spmets1111,0,6216391.story?coll=ny-main-bigpix They also got Hotfoot's URL wrong, because "hotfoot.com" is a website for a bird repellant company.
You definitely get the kudos, but couldn't Newsday have sent someone over to Shea to confirm if a sign is really there?
