I for one was happy to open up this thread and not see an article about some awful trade proposal or lousy FA signing.

This one is from the Times/Rotoworld:

Free agent Ruben Sierra likely will sign a minor league deal with the Mets.

"We haven?t finalized anything yet, but that?s probably what will happen," agent Chuck Barry said Monday. The Mets are the only team with much interest, and they most likely only want to stash him away in Triple-A in case an extra bat is needed.

On the bright side, if he gets called up at least you will have some real good salsa music playing now.

Is it me or have the Mets totally screwed up this offseason.

I see one glaring need that we have done nothing to address. We need a young front line starter. I just can't believe that other teams don't want millage, heilman, Humber, even perez or Maine. We have a surplus of trade pieces but omar has been working on getting Ruban Sierra. WTF is he thinking?

I keep reading where Omar is talking to this team or that but that the price is too high, Short of Reyes, Wright, Delgado, and Beltran I dont see how we can say no.

In a nutshell, the Mets have a very top heavy farm system. To make a move at this point would not be in the best interest long term for the club.

I just hope we are not 10 games out by then. I know that these guys have talent but we no longer have the bullpen we had last year. You can't just get 5 innings out of Maine and be happy because you have to save the bullpen for the Glavine and El-duc starts.

Met fans need to grow a set. This team is going to stomp the NL East again.

Maybe you have to be 40 or older to play for the Mets.

Sure he can, for 5 innings in the NL.

Just like Randy was the "missing piece"

5 innings in the NL? Are you saying that the AL is clearly better than the NL? Where real baseball is played?

It has been well known that I didn't want Randy and wanted Tim Hudson. Granit, Hudson hasn't exactly been great in Atlanta, but at least he is younger. Johnson I never liked, piece of trash, and Pinstripe Flop.

I'll gladly take Raja back for his 6 innings, because right now the Yanks only have 3 set starters.

Thanks shade tree; I was thinking how horrible it would be to see Dirty Rodger in pinstripes again. But if he pulls a Randy Johnson it would be great just another player their fans can complain about.

Better pitchers in the AL against better lineups. Most pitchers who make the transition from NL to AL are nothing like they were...

Watch Zito get at least 17 wins with an ERA in the 2.75-3.30 range. He'll dominate NL hitting.
