When I was writing that Willie likes Endy I had this exact thought, so I can't disagree that (at the very least) this is how the season will start. I am willing to believe (hope) for the moment that if Green or Alou play poorly Endy will get the chance to show if he can be a starter. And let's not forget - Endy was awful at the bat in the postseason (with the glove - a different story!). There is the chance that he was exposed there as well. Funny, but I just can't bring myself to get worked up over Heilman. He was such a baby about starting for so long, and the fact is that the guy has had about 3-5 good starts in his entire career. I'm just not a believer that he is a legitimate starter. Sooner or later we'll find out, I suppose.
Heilman is being a baby, when he is a FA. He will be paid very well for a reliever, he is unproven as a starter.
From everything I've been hearing about the trade rumors involving Heilman, the teams interested in him are interested in him as a starter. Now, I'm not going to say that I'm positive that Heilman will have success as a starter but when a guy like Billy Beane is interested in him that would make me take a second look at him.
I know he's a Brave, but maybe the Mets could steal Marcus Giles? rotoworld I know in-division trades don't happen often, but the Braves did deal Millwood to Philly when in a similiar situation, so I think don't think its unreasonable.
Giles might get non tendered on the 12th if he isn't traded by then. So why bother giving something up for him?
Why is Atlanta looking to cut Giles loose? Was there some injury component to his sucking last year? I can't believe they'd give up on him that quickly if there wasn't some other issue.
I heard on metsblog that Valentin was gonna be the starting 2nd baseman again, and why would you want Giles?
Endy Chavez rules the universe. That said, he is an average hitter with limited power. He's best coming off the bench. With these geezers we have in the corners he'll get plenty of time in the line up this year.
Valentin had a .271 avg and 18 HRs in almost 400ABs. Giles had a .266 avg and 11 HRs in about 550ABs. How do you figure?
I don't care what the numbers are, I'd take Giles. The teams porn stache stats will take a beating but I think Giles is the better player.
So we are judging the player soley on last years stats?? If the debate is who had the better year than sure Valentin had a better year last year.. If we are talking about who is the better player and has more potential for next year and beyond it is Giles by a mile.. If he does become a FA(which I would think to be unlikely) there is no question he is the better option as the full time 2nd baseman..
who has more range @ 2nd base? who has better footwork on turning a doubleplay? who fields the position natural and is less likely to get our star SS killed feeding him on the double play. there is more than offensive stats that need to be considered.
we're not talking about the way it tickles your hineyhole.we are talking about playing 2nd base for the new york mets.big guy
